BOYS TENNIS: Palmyra captures Colonial crown


It's not easy to win a division title. It's even more difficult to win one without getting beat somewhere along the way.

Difficult, but not impossible, as the Palmyra boys tennis team proved on Friday.

The Cougars finished off an unbeaten run to the Mid-Penn Conference Colonial Division title with a 4-1 win at East Pennsboro Friday.

The clinching victory gave Palmyra a 12-0 division record and a 12-2 overall mark, as well as its second victory over second-place East Pennsboro this season.

The decisive victory came from the No. 2 doubles team of Adam Lerro and Quinn Marcus, who outlasted Zhong Li and Dylan Doan in three sets, 6-1, 2-6, 6-1.

Ben Rusling also came up with a key three-set win at No. 2 singles, edging Gabe Petrovich by a 6-4, 1-6, 6-3 score.

Other Palmyra wins came from Eric Kohl at No. 3 singles and Juan Cruz and Campbell Graff at No. 1 doubles.

The lone win for East Pennsboro (10-2, 8-2 Colonial Division) was at No. 1 singles. where Logan Gouse triumphed over Eric Lynn, 6-1, 6-1.
