Palmyra relay 10th at state meet

A trip to the medal stand proved to be elusive for Lebanon County competitors at the PIAA Swimming Championships on Friday.

Six different county swimmers hit the pool at Bucknell University's Kinney Natatorium Friday, but none managed a top eight finish needed to grab some hardware. Still, the locals performed admirably on the big stage.

Palmyra senior Teag Culver was the top county performer individually, placing 13th in the Class AA 200-yard freestyle in 1:46.66, while teaming with Joshua Wakefield, Joey Giordano and Tanner Yaw to tie for 10th in the 200 freestyle relay. The relay quartet posted a time of 1:30.46 after clocking a 1:31.28 in the preliminaries.

Wakefield was also in action in the AA 50-yard freestyle, placing 17th in 22.28 seconds. Annville-Cleona's Adam Fox also swam in the 50 free, grabbing 23rd place in 22.57 seconds.

In addition, Fox's A-C teammate, Cole Connelly, competed on Friday, finishing 19th in the 100-yard breast stroke in 2:04.26.

Culver will be back in action on Saturday in the 500-yard freestyle, and along with Wakefield, Yaw and Ryan James in the 400-yard freestyle relay. Wakefield and Fox will be back in the pool individually as well, competing in the 100-yard freestyle as the state meet wraps up.
