New Covenant Christian boys soccer preview

New Covenant Christian

Coach: Jon Klohr, third season

Last year's record: 10-7

Key returners: Nate Dubble, Sr., MF/F; Toby Kornhaus, Sr., MF; Nick Klohr, Jr., MF.

Promising newcomers: Evan Hoover, Fr., D; Jonny Klohr, Fr., F; Eli Zeisloft, Fr., MF/F.

Outlook: Whether in practice, the heat of a tied game or an everyday workout, there exists a singular focus for the Flames.

Finish.

Their hope is that by giving complete effort through all parts of their season, they'll complete their season-long goal of double-digit wins in the CCAC West, edging either Harrisburg Christian or West Shore Academy out for a top spot. New Covenant is scheduled to meet both come mid-September.

"We focus on finishing in every practice and that's what we try to do in our games and get the guys pumped up with that," Flames coach Jon Klohr said. "I do believe we have the skill level and endurance to be second or third in our division. I definitely believe we have the ability to do that."

On the pitch, New Covenant will be boosted by the potential of three to four freshmen starters, who would balance a strong attacking group. Senior Toby Kornhaus racked up 18 goals last season, and Nate Dubble collected more than 20 points. But no matter if they're seasoned or just starting out, Klohr knows this about his squad:

"They're ready to play."
