Lebanon boys soccer preview

Lebanon

Coach: Todd Gingrich, third season

Last year's record: 0-18

Returning players: Sebastian Sierra, Sr., D; Karim Agha, Sr., F/MF; Felix Kortright-Roman, Jr., GK/F; Alex Mease, Jr., D/MF; Luke Foster, Jr., MF.

Promising newcomers: Tanner Mease, Soph., D/MF, Deybel Andujar, Soph., D/MF, Sabo Horn, Soph., MF.

Outlook: It's not often you'll find a starting keeper part-timing as one of his team's top forwards. But such is life for Lebanon boys soccer, where shrinking participation has forced many unique situations like junior Felix Kortright-Roman spending one half protecting one net and the next attacking the other.

And yet, the Cedars push on.

"We have a nice group," Lebanon coach Todd Gingrich said. "I wish we had more, but if I was going to pick 16, this would be the 16 I would pick."

Akin to his roster numbers, Gingrich cannot choose his section, now Section One after a swap with Cedar Crest. Though he doesn't see the move as a seismic shift, rather an exchange of one group of L-L powers for another. Meanwhile, the group he has will look to compete first and foremost through its physical ability and then the skills they've worked to harness in the preseason.

"We have some athleticism," Gingrich said. Last year I think we had some more experienced soccer players, but I'd say one through 11, we don't have anyone who's unathletic.

"And our team works very, very hard for each other," Lebanon coach Todd Gingrich said. "I'm just happy if they work hard, they learn and keep working hard."
