Northern Lebanon closes in on section crown

The Northern Lebanon girls basketball team can't call the Section Three title its own just yet, but it is getting very, very close to possessing it.

The Vikings moved to the brink of their first Section Three title in 30 years on Wednesday night, via a 56-32 road win at Lampeter-Strasburg,

Now 19-1 overall and 13-1 in the section, Northern Lebanon increased its lead over second-place and idle Cocalico to two-and-a-half games and can sew up the section tonight with a win at home over county rival Elco.

The Vikes took care of business early on Wednesday night, racing to a 16-3 first-quarter lead and never looking back.

Zoe Zerman led a balanced effort with 17 points and four 3-pointers, Megan Brandt pitched in with 13 points, and Amber Kintzer added 10 to the win.

Lebanon Catholic 70, Lancaster Mennonite 37: On Assumption Hill, the Beavers tuned up for the upcoming postseason by routing lowly Mennonite behind 17 points from Celine Mars.

Now 13-5 overall and 9-5 in Section Four, L-L and district playoff-bound Catholic also got 14 points apiece from Allie Warren and Neesha Pierre.

Pequea Valley 47, Annville-Cleona 34: In Kinzers, A-C fell in a 20-9 first-quarter hole en route to dropping to 4-14 overall and 3-10 in Section Three.

Meredith Bachman topped A-C in defeat with eight points.
