Hempfield baseball edges Penn Manor, 2-1

MILLERSVILLE- In cold and windy conditions, Hempfield was able to defeat Penn Manor on Friday, 2-1 to improve their record to 5-0, 3-0 while handing the Comets their first loss of the season (5-1, 2-1).

The Black Knights jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the first when Angel Colon roped a shot to right field that scored Brenden Keller.

Penn Manor would even the score in the third when Jeremy Burkholder connected on an RBI single that brought in Grant Gale.

Colon would make his presence felt again in the sixth inning though after he walk, stole second, advanced to third on a passed ball and then scored on a Reilly Workman sacrifice fly.

Hempfield starting pitcher Eric Sipler, who made his first ever varsity start, allowed five hits while striking out three in five innings. Andrew Corso finished the game for Hempfield; allowing no hits and striking out one.

Meanwhile, Penn Manor pitcher Matt Tulli went the distance; allowing just four hits and striking out three.
