BASEBALL ROUNDUP: Elco tops Donegal in Section Three showdown


After shutting out new section foe Lebanon on Wednesday, the Raiders kept on rolling to the top of Section Three with a walk-off, 3-2 victory over Donegal Thursday afternoon. Elco scored one run in the fourth, fifth and seventh innings, totaling six hits and zero errors. The Indians suffered from three defensive miscues and scored twice in the final frame. Travis Zimmerman clubbed the Raiders' only extra-base hit on the day, a double, while Cole Blatt (six strikeouts, one walk) earned the win.

Elco improved to 3-1 on the season, its only a loss a one-run defeat at Manheim Central. The Raiders return to action Monday at Cocalico.

MCCASKEY 16, CEDAR CREST 6>> Still in search of their first win, the Falcons were blasted at home by the Red Tornado, which jumped out to a 10-2 lead after three innings. McCaskey totaled 14 hits, while Cedar Crest registered four errors. Derek Hitz was saddled with the loss and followed in relief by Austin Palm and Brett Bawiec.

COCALICO 5, LEBANON 2>> Down 3-0 after four innings, the Cedars matched host Cocalico in the final three frames but couldn't overcome their early deficit in the team's second loss in as many days. Daniel Caricabeur punched out two Eagle hitters in relief, while Justin Martin took the loss on the hill. Cocalico's Jeremy Marshall also hit a home run.

PEQUEA VALLEY 15, LEBANON CATHOLIC 1>> One run in the third inning fell fall short for the Beavers, who recorded one hit in a six-inning loss to Pequea Valley. Lebanon Catholic committed three errors on its home field, but only surrendered a pair of extra-base hits. The Braves scored eleven runs in the last two frames.
