BASEBALL ROUNDUP: Palmyra suffers 10-inning defeat at Hershey


Eight days after going 11 innings for a 3-3 tie against Susquehanna Township, the Palmyra baseball team fell in 10 frames Wednesday during a 10-9 loss at Hershey. Connor Gurt picked up the win for the Trojans, who scored five in the seventh to push the game to extras. The Cougars' Braden Vernet took the loss, recording one strikeout and one walk. Isaac Blatt, Carl Reigle and Evan Hallowell all knocked doubles for Palmyra (0-3) over a 14-hit afternoon.

The Cougars scored in five of the first six innings, but could only post one run from the seventh on.

WARWICK 7, CEDAR CREST 3>> Despite jumping on the Warriors with two runs in the opening frame, Cedar Crest fell for the second time in as many contests Wednesday. Skylar Krause took the loss for the Falcons, who surrendered four runs in the third and never led again. John Bailey entered in relief, notching a strikeout and a walk. As a result, Cedar Crest dropped to 0-2 on the season, following a four-run loss to Hempfield Monday in its season opener.

NORTHERN LEBANON 4, COCALICO 3>> Two runs in the bottom of the sixth saved the Vikings during a home win over the Eagles in Fredericksburg. Senior starting pitcher Wyatt Beakler earned the win for Northern Lebanon (3-0), posting 10 strikeouts and just one walk. Neither team committed an error on the afternoon, while the Vikings remained undefeated with eight hits to Cocalico's five.

ANNVILLE-CLEONA 12, LEBANON CATHOLIC 0>> The Flying Dutchmen need only five innings to dispatch of their in-county foe, scoring five runs in each of the first two innings. Annville-Cleona starter Colton Long and his subsequent relievers combined one-hit the Beavers, who made six errors in the field. The Flying Dutchmen improved to 4-0 on their young season.
