Lebanon wrestlers take down Cedar Crest


With the aid of nine forfeits, the Lebanon High wrestling team earned a 39-18 win over crosstown rival Cedar Crest Wednesday at Cedar Crest High School.

In addition, Carlos Cruz led the Cedars with a 5-4 decision over the Falcons' Christopher Byler at 126. Dallin Ocasio followed with an 8-4 decision over Cedar Crest's Austin Bohr at 160. Jacob Marderness helped seal the win with a 12-8 decision over the Falcons Derrick Via at 195.

Cedar Crest's three wins came from Ryan Scicchitano at 132 by forfeit, Austin Olan-Torres at 220 off a pin in 3:56 of the Cedars' Angle Borges, and Ross Fisher at 285, pinning Lebanon's Eddie Torres in 1:32.

Wrestling 

Annville-Cleona 66, Lancaster Catholic 12

Along with three forfeits, the Dutchmen dominated with seven pins, including one by Zach Renninger at 132 in 32 seconds over the Crusaders' Alex Joseph. Matthew Inman started the night with an 11-0 major decision over Lancaster Catholic's Samuel Lobeck.

In South Lebanon, the Falcons earned another sweep to remain unbeaten in the early going. Both Cedar Crest teams are now 4-0 heading into the opening of Section One action vs. Hempfield on Jan. 3.

Matthew Moffitt led the Falcon boys' victory with wins in the 100 freestyle and backstroke, while Caitlyn Gelgot paced the Cedar Crest girls by winning the 50 and 100 freestyle.

Correction: The point total of Palmyra boys basketball player Sam Sheils  in Wednesday's win at Bishop McDevitt was incorrect in Thursday's edition. Sheils led the Cougars with 23 points.
