Lebanon County Highlights: Elco girls basketball edges Manheim Central


 

Game of the Day

Elco girls basketball 45, Manheim Central 42

Free-throw shooting paid to be the difference in a tight one, as the Raiders finished 16-of-24, while the Barons were a woeful 0-of-10. Elco edged Central in the third quarter 10-7, and 15-14 in the fourth.

Player of the Day 

Taylor Bossert, Elco girls basketball

Bossert led the Lady Raiders in their three-point win with a game-high 22 points, including all 5 Elco 3's, and shooting 5-of-6 from the charity stripe. This performance follows a 28-point game Saturday in the Lady Raiders win at Middletown.

Boys Basketball

Mechanicsburg 57, Palmyra 47

Down just 27-21 at halftime, things unraveled quickly for the Cougars (2-1, 0-1) to start the third quarter, as the Wildcats (2-1, 1-0)  jumped out with a 7-0 run to take their largest lead at 34-21. Palmyra fought back to within 51-42 with 2:11 left, but Mechanicsburg closed out the game on the charity stripe. The Cougars had a lot of trouble stopping the Wildcats' Cade Alioth, who finished with 26 points. Bryant Willis led Palmyra with 16 points.

Manheim Central 76, Elco 69

In Myerstown, the Raiders kept it close, but endured their third straight setback to open the season. No other details were available.

Veritas Academy 47, Lebanon Catholic 39

At Spooky Nook, the Beavers dropped their season opener despite 22 points from Kyle Kauffman and 11 from Humberto Valerio.

Annville-Cleona 73, Tulpehocken 47

The Dutchmen are off to a 3-0 start, thanks to big nights from Cameron Hoch, Ryan Matthews, and Donald Friday. Matthews led all scorers with 19 points, followed by Friday with 14 and Hoch with 12 points. A-C opened up a 54-34 lead after three, outscoring Tulpehocken 18-11 in the third.

West Chester Christian School 61, Lebanon Christian Academy 43

Brock Monk had 25 points to lead all scorers but the Panthers were outscored 31-17 in the second half en route to the defeat.

Girls Basketball

Mahanoy Area 44, Lebanon Catholic 29

A tough third quarter did the Beavers in, outscored by the Golden Bears 15-8, increasing the lead to their largest at 36-20. Alexis Hill led Lebanon Catholic with 15 points. Megan Babinsky and Jayda Bryne led Mahanoy Area with 11 and 10 points, respectively.

Northern Lebanon 67, Middletown 52

Up just four after one, the Vikings pulled away with a dominant second quarter, outscoring the Blue Raiders 17-7. NL had a balanced night offensively with four players finishing in double figures, led by Zoe Zerman with 19 points, including 7-of-9 from the free throw line. Bianca Jasper did have a big night for Middletown, leading all scorers with 28 points.

Palmyra 37, Mechanicsburg 30

In Mechanicsburg, the Cougars opened their Mid-Penn Keystone Division slate in victorious fashion behind 13 points from Amelia Baldo.

Now 2-1 overall, Palmyra took control with a 10-4  run through the second on the way to grabbing a 23-16 halftime lead.

Annville-Cleona 52, Tulpehocken 25

The Dutchmen dominated the first half, leading 27-5, allowing just one point in the entire second quarter. Arianna Clay led A-C with 11 points.

Cedar Crest 106, Elizabethtown 64

Matthew Moffitt led the Falcons with a first-place finish in the 50 freestyle in 0:22.49 and the 100 butterfly in 0:57.14. Josh Wildonger also won two events, including the 500 freestyle and 200 indiviudal medley, in times of 5:28.81 and 2:13.34, respectively.

Cedar Crest 105, Elizabethtown 65

Caitlyn Gelgot and Krysta Weik led the Lady Falcons with two first place finishes. Gelgot took the 50 freestyle and 500 freestyle with times of 0:25 and 5:45.26, respectively. Weik won the 100 Butterfly 200 individual medley with times of 1:06.23 and 2:21.33, respectively.

Ryan Stone led the Raiders with an average score of 236.33, including a 266 in Game 3. Joseph Rittle finished with an average score of 222.33, including a 246 in Game 1. Jacob Hitz posted an average score of 208.33, with his highest score of 248 coming in Game 3.
