Lebanon County HS Highlights - Sept. 28

Game of the Day

Elco field hockey 1, Northern Lebanon 0 (OT)

One team was struggling for wins, the other was not. But all of that went out the window on Wednesday when county rivals Elco and Northern Lebanon got together on the field hockey field.

Struggling Northern Lebanon pushed Section Three contender Elco to the wall and then some before dropping a 1-0 overtime decision in Fredericksburg.

Emily Witmer brought the contest to an end at 9:22 of the OT off an assist from Hannah Williams, but not before the Vikings had given quite an account of themselves behind nine saves in goal from Hannah Whitman.

Player of the Day

Reagan Hess, Annville-Cleona girls soccer

Last week, Reagan Hess reached the career 100-goal milestone in a loss to Elco. On Wednesday night, it only seemed like she tried to score another 100.

Hess exploded for six goals to lead A-C to a thorough 7-0 drubbing of county rival Northern Lebanon under the lights at Annville-Cleona High School.

Hess scored the first six goals for Annville-Cleona, bringing her career total to 112 on the heels of a five-goal outburst in a 5-0 win against Oley Valley on Saturday.

In Lancaster, the Raiders won a wild one to maintain a share of the Section 3 lead.

Mason Bennetch, Clay Hain, Stephen Wiczalkowski, Justin Kimmet, Logan Royer and Andres Areiza all scored for Elco, which jumped to a 3-0 halftime lead before surviving a wild second half.

Annville-Cleona 3, Northern Lebanon 2 (OT)

In Fredericksburg, Robert Enigk scored 4:20 into extra time to lift the Little Dutchmen to the dramatic win.

Eli Setlock assisted on the goal, which helped A-C survive squandering a 2-0 halftime lead.

Alexander Wenger and Setlock, via a penalty kick, staked A-C to a 2-0 halftime lead, before Ben Rathmell and Rodrigo Urreta pulled the Vikings even and forced the extra session by scoring in the second half.

Lancaster Mennonite 6, Lebanon Catholic 0

Josiah Kanagy scored twice in the first 11 minutes to propel Mennonite to a 5-0 halftime lead and ultimately an easy victory over the struggling Beavers.
