Game of the day

Girls lacrosse, Palmyra 17, Lewisburg 6

It was certainly a special night for the Cougars, and also for one individual who's been a big part of the team's offense this season.

The Cougars ended the 2016 season on the highest of notes, clinching their first winning season in program history.

Palmyra (9-8) wasted no time pulling away from the Green Dragons, pouring on 10 goals in the first half. A good chunk of the offense came off the stick of Cheyenne Sprecher, who also reached a milestone (more on her memorable day below). Hailey Ebersole recorded a four-point night with two goals and two assists. Riley Cook was solid in the Palmyra goal with 13 saves.

Player of the day

Cheyenne Sprecher, Palmyra girls lacrosse

Sprecher led the Cougars by scoring nearly a third of the team's goals, leading to a big career milestone. After recording a five-goal night en route to the program's first winning season in its history, Sprecher recorded her 100th career goal. She finishes the 2016 season with 66 points, including 57 goals and nine assists.

Up 2-1 after three innings, the Vikings pulled away with three runs in the fifth. Ben Wengert went the distance for NL, striking out nine, while allowing only one walk.

A 13-run second inning clinched the mercy rule win for the Little Dutchmen. Hunter Long helped lead the way with a 2-for-2 day, including three RBIs and a run scored. Cole Waldausen also had a three-RBI day, along with a double and two runs scored.

All eight Panthers runs came in two of the final four innings to pull away. CD East scored five in the fourth, followed by three in the sixth. Palmyra didn't help its own cause either, committing three errors.

Boys volleyball

Behind big nights from Ben Rusling, Tyler Schaefer, and Tanner Yaw, the Cougars pulled out a classic back-and-forth win. After both teams traded set wins, it was Palmyra who gave the final blow, dominating the fifth and final set 15-3. Rusling finished with two aces, nine kills, 14 assists, and eight digs, while Schaefer recorded three aces, nine kills, 16 assists, seven digs, and a block. Yaw was key defensively with 10 digs, along with two aces, three kills and two assists.
