Lebanon County H.S. Highlights: May 9

Game of the day

Northern Lebanon softball 5, Elco 4

Now this is how you shake off a case of the Mondays.

Northern Lebanon's Kelly Shuey knocked out an infield single with two outs in the bottom of the seventh and plated Kaylee Mauser for a walk-off win in section play. Vikings hurler Jess Kreiser retired the last 11 Elco hitters, while her team scored twice in the third and fifth prior to Shuey's heroics.

Northern Lebanon totaled 11 hits against Raiders starter Sarah Yermalovich, who also struck out six. Amara Philip went 1-for-3 with an RBI for Elco.

Player of the day

Cody Kissinger, Lebanon baseball

The junior right-hander fired a two-hitter at home against Donegal, which slid the Cedars into second place of a packed Section Three race. Kissinger scattered six strikeouts, allowed only one walk and overcame four errors behind him in the field.

Kissinger has now throw six complete games in his seven starts this year.

Baseball

Lebanon 2, Donegal 1

Behind Kissinger's mound dominance, the Cedars survived a close shave at home. Danny Caricabeur scored the game-winning run, while Cam Shaak led Lebanon with a pair of hits. The Cedars next travel to Manheim Central on Tuesday for a showdown between the section's top teams by league record.

Lancaster Catholic 2, Annville-Cleona 1

The Little Dutchmen fell to an even 6-6 in league play after a long-awaited rematch with the reigning section champ. Mitch Long slugged a home run off Crusaders starter Dillon Marsh, who otherwise surrendered one hit and struck out a dozen over a complete-game effort in Annville.

Manheim Twp. 6, Cedar Crest 2

Three hits were all the Falcons could muster at home on Senior Day as they attempted to sweep their season series with the Blue Streaks. Brett Bawiec took the loss on the hill through four innings of work. Iziah Trimble and Logan Horn picked up RBIs.

Lancaster Mennonite 12, Lebanon Catholic 1 (5 innings)

A one-run opening frame was not enough to keep the Beavers from defeat in Lancaster. Noah Marinkov went 1-for-2 with a run scored, but also surrendered 11 earned from the mound. Joe Gates accounted for the only other Lebanon Catholic hit.

Softball

Manheim Twp. 4, Cedar Crest 0

The Falcons largely kept pace in the hits department, but couldn't scratch across any runs in Neffsville. The Blue Streaks' Reilly Gearhart smashed a pair of doubles, leading all batters with two hits and an RBI. Cedar Crest's Maddie Gable punched out four and was tagged with just one earned run.

Annville-Cleona 14, Lancaster Catholic (5 innings)

Scoring in every inning but the fourth, the Little Dutchmen earned a convincing win in Lancaster. Amber Rexrode collected four RBI over a 3-for-3 performance, while Sarah Fischer knocked in three runs and Lauren Schrader and Emma Lerched each brought home a pair. Lerchen fired nine strikeouts from the circle.

Lower Dauphin 7, Palmyra 0

A big fifth frame buried the Cougars, who managed only four hits on the road. Palmyra's Kayla Bonawitz crushed a triple, and Sara Boyer connected for two base hits.

Lancaster Mennonite 13, Lebanon Catholic 1 (5 innings)

The Beavers were no-hit over a tough afternoon in Lebanon. MaKenna Purcell came across for Lebanon Catholic's lone run.

Cedar Crest 78, Hempfield 72

The Falcons came up big in their Section One finale, edging the Black Knights with the help of wins from Evan Horn in the 100 dash and long jump.

Annville-Cleona 98, Lancaster Catholic 51

The Little Dutchmen put the finishing touches on a runner-up finish in Section Three by topping the Crusaders behind four multiple event winners - Matt Light, Adam Fox, Stanley Miller and Derek Bosworth.

Northern Lebanon 80, Donegal 70

Dakota Leonhard owned the shot put and javelin again as the Vikings squeaked past Donegal in their Section Three finale.

Girls Track

Hempfield 80, Cedar Crest 70

Ariel Jones' sweep of the high jump, long jump and triple jump wasn't quite enough to keep the Falcons from a narrow defeat.

Lebanon vs. Elizabethtown

No score reported.

Annville-Cleona 89, Lancaster Catholic 61

Reagan Hess turned in another three-win day in the 100, 200 and long jump, as A-C wrapped up its section slate in winning fashion.

Donegal 130, Northern Lebanon 20

The Vikings closed out their season with a lopsided setback, winning just two events against the Section Three champs.

Elco 99, Lancaster Mennonite 51

In Lancaster, Chandelle Keller won four events - high hurdles, long jump, triple jump, high jump - as the Raiders cruised to the easy win in their Section Three finale.

Boys Volleyball

Conestoga Valley 3, Cedar Crest 1

The Falcons traded sets in Lancaster until at last falling 15-12 in the fifth. They return home Wednesday for their regular-season finale against McCaskey.

Palmyra 3, Litiz Christian 0

Mike Hall and Ben Rusling each notched a half-dozen kills, as the Cougars cruised to their seventh win of the season. Hall also made seven blocks.

Garden Spot 3, Lebanon 0

A 25-19 second set was the closest the Cedars came Monday against the Spartans. Paul Heagy recorded three hills and four blocks, both team-highs.
