Lebanon County H.S. Highlights: April 25

Game of the day

Elco boys track 95, Annville-Cleona 55

The Elco boys track team took a giant step toward a Section Three title on Monday, rolling over county rival Annville-Cleona 95-55 in a battle of section unbeatens on A-C's home turf.

Now 4-0 in the section with league meets against Columbia and Lancaster Mennonite remaining, Elco dominated on the track while taking sole possession of first place, winning 10 of the 11 track events led by Ethan Anspach's triumphs in the 100 and 200 dashes.

Elco also swept the relays, and pulled out a win from Tyler Horst in the discus en route to the win. Matt Light won the triple jump and the javelin to lead the Little Dutchmen.

Player of the day

Reagan Hess,  Annville-Cleona

It's not the first time she's won this honor and it may not be the last. But it's hard to ignore what Reagan Hess did on Monday, following up her prolific four-event win at Saturday's Shippensburg Invitational with another big effort in A-C's 78-72 win over Elco.

As she did on Saturday, Hess won four events. She breezed by in the 100 and 200, before anchoring the 400 relay and leaping farthest in the long jump.

Baseball

Palmyra 3, Bishop McDevitt 2 (9 innings)

At Palmyra, the Cougars pulled out a dramatic extra-inning on Isaac Blatt sac fly in the bottom of the ninth that plated Brandon Charochak with the winning run.

Palmyra, which plated its first two runs in the bottom of the first, was locked in a 2-2 tie from the third inning on, until Blatt and Charochak teamed up to end it.

Tyler Julian led a nine-hit Palmyra attack by going 3-for-4 with a double, and Ryan James picked up the win in relief, working the last two innings after replacing starter Zack Yingst.

Elco 17, Lebanon Catholic 1 (4 innings)

Travis Weaver picked up a win on the mound and hit a home run for the Raiders, who rolled at home. Elco plated 10 runs in the final frame and out-hit the Beavers 14-3. Hunter Witters smacked a triple, Cole Blatt and Joe Ginder each had doubles, while Lebanon Catholic's Noah Marinkov struck out two.

Elizabethtown 8, Cedar Crest 4

Four Bears runs in the third and fifth left the Falcons on the losing end of a home crossover matchup. Led by Jacee Orta's pair of hits, Cedar Crest out-hit E-town 8-6. Orta also knocked in two runs and scored once. Logan Horn took the loss for the Falcons.

Pequea Valley 4, Lebanon 3

A line-drive double play with the bases loaded capped the Braves' upset win at Coleman Memorial Park. The Cedars collected nine hits, but never led as starter Cody Kissinger was saddled with the loss. Cam Shaak and Michael Deleon each recorded extra-base hits.

Softball

Annville-Cleona 3, Northern Lebanon 2

At A-C, Emma Lerchen scattered seven hits over seven innings to pick up the mound victory, as A-C narrowly won this all-county crossover battle.

The Little Dutchmen managed just three hits against NL's Jess Kreiser, but pushed across single runs in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings to grab the win.

Elco 16, Lebanon Catholic 1 (5 innings)

In Myerstown, the Raiders emphatically bounced back from Friday's lopsided loss to Annville-Cleona to rout the Beavers in five innings via a 15-hit attack.

Casey Boyer led the offense with a double and three RBIs, and Maddie Groy also drove in three for Randy Derr's club. Sara Bentz, Courtney Henry and Allie Header added two RBIs apiece, and Amaya Phillips picked up the pitching win with five innings of one-hit ball.

Bishop McDevitt 11, Palmyra 9

The Cougars blew a seven-run lead heading into the bottom of the sixth when the Crusaders exploded for a comeback win. Both teams smashed 11 hits, while Palmyra committed a half-dozen errors in the field. The Cougars' Sara Boyer had three RBIs and Mikayla Bomgardner crushed a couple doubles.

Elizabethtown 2, Cedar Crest 0

Despite out-hitting the hosting Bears 6-5, the Falcons could never get on the board in crossover action. Cedar Crest also made four errors, while E-town's Lauren Allison struck out six during her complete-game effort.

Penn Manor 15, Lebanon 0 (4 innings)

Twelve Comets runs in the second doomed the Cedars, who managed one total hit courtesy of Emily Fake.

Boys Track

Cedar Crest 98, Penn Manor 52

The Falcons dominated in field events at Millersville, as Chris Kelly and Evan Horn each took home a pair of first-place finishes. Luke Allwein and Jesse Cruise did the same in hurdles and distance races, respectively.

Lebanon 103, Lampeter-Strasburg 47

At Lebanon High, the Cedars used three wins from Juan Maldonado (100 dash, long jump, triple jump) to race past the Pioneers in this Section Two encounter.

Girls Track

 Annville-Cleona 78, Elco 72

In Annville, A-C used Reagan Hess's aforementioned heroics and wins from Courtney Conners in the 400 and 800 to edge the Raiders, who were led by three wins from Chandelle Keller (high hurdles, triple jump, high jump, javelin).

Cedar Crest 78, Penn Manor 72

The Comets won eight events, but fell at home in part due to Cedar Crest's sweep in the throwing events. Faith Wenrich took the high jump with a leap of 5-2, Brianna Laliberte won the 800 in 2:34 and Destine Holloman sped to first place in 12.8 during the 100.

Lampeter-Strasburg 116, Lebanon 34

At Lebanon, the Cedars were overwhelmed by the Pioneers, winning just three of the 17 events en route to the lopsided loss.

Boys Volleyball

Red Land 3, Palmyra 0

The Cougars were swept by scores of 25-21, 25-19 and 27-25 despite a big night from Ben Rusling, who finished with 8 digs, 5 kills, 2 blocks and six assists.

Tyler Sheaffer added 18 assists, and Tanner Yaw contributed 7 kills in a losing cause.
