Lebanon County H.S. Highlights: April 20

Game of the day

Elco softball 20, Columbia 8

The Elco softball team endured a lengthy bus ride to Columbia for Wednesday's Section Three-Four crossover contest. Safe to say, the ride home seemed a little faster than the trip down.

The Raiders put on an offensive show of epic proportions while putting the brakes on a two-game losing streak, smashing 24 hits en route to a 20-8 victory.

Now 4-6 overall and 3-5 in Section Three, the Raiders actually trailed 5-2 after two innings, before an eight-run third inning turned the tide for good. Columbia also committed six errors to aid the Elco onslaught, which included four doubles, three from Beth Wiczalkowski and one from Amaya Phillips. Phillips had five hits and five RBIs, and Wiczalkowski  added four hits and four RBIs to the victory.

Player of the day

Amaya Phillips, Elco softball team

As noted above, the Elco softball team enjoyed a big day at the plate on Wednesday. No Raider had a bigger day than Amaya Phillips.

In the lopsided 20-8 victory over Columbia, Phillips set the tone for the Raiders' 24-hit assault, going 5-for-5 with a double and five RBIs. Phillips also got the job done on the mound, tossing five innings of relief to pick up the win after taking over for starter Sarah Yermalovich in the third.

In Fredericksburg, the Vikings raced to a 4-0 lead after three innings and held on for the win.

Chase Dubendorf and Michigan Daub each doubled to lead a 10-hit attack, and Seth Walmer and Hayden Johnson combined on the pitching chores, with Walmer scattering eight hits in 6 1/3 innings and Johnson getting the last two outs for the save as NL improved to 5-7 overall and 3-5 in Section Three.

Manheim Central 15, Lebanon Catholic 0 (3 innings)

In Manheim, the Beavers went down quickly in three innings, due in large part to the 12 runs the Barons put up in the second inning.

Central also held Catholic without a hit in the three-inning win.

At Ephrata. the Falcons used a four-run top of the sixth to break a 1-1 tie and secure the road win.
