Northern Lebanon baseball 15, Lancaster Mennonite 8

In Fredericksburg, the Vikings found themselves down 7-4  heading into the bottom of the fifth. Then the offense took matters into its own hands, pouring on eight runs to begin pulling away.

“One thing I stressed to them was chipping away at the lead. The big thing was getting guys on base,” said Vikings coach Daryl Hess. “I think they also realized if they kept chipping away things would break out, and they did.”

Noah Gingrich started NL’s rally with a two-run home run to cut the deficit to 7-6.

"He was seeing the ball pretty well," Hess said. "He really turned on it nice and hit it well."

Michigan Daub also had a big day at the plate and was a vocal part of the rally. More on that below.

After Lancaster Mennonite got one back in the top of the sixth, NL came back with three more runs to ice the game.

With the win, the Vikings improve to 4-5 overall.

Player of the day

Michigan Daub, Northern Lebanon baseball 

After a rather tough day on the mound, Daub took out his frustrations with his bat. The Vikings sophomore went 2-for-4 with 5 RBI in the victory. Daub got three of his five RBI with a bases-clearing triple to give the Vikings the lead after Gingrich’s two-run blast had gotten NL back within one.

“Michigan’s very level-headed. He doesn’t let things like that bother him, and he really hit the ball hard today,” Hess said. “But Lancaster Mennonite hit the ball hard too and came out swinging, despite him making some good pitches.”

Baseball

Garden Spot 4, Cedar Crest 3

In South Lebanon, the Falcons continued to struggle, this time in a narrow one-run loss to the Spartans.

Cedar Crest (2-7) managed just three hits in the loss, two of which came off the bat of Ethan Stickler.

Lower Dauphin 11, Palmyra 1 (6 innings)

At LD, the Cougars were locked in a tight battle with their neighboring rival until the roof fell in courtesy of an eight-run bottom of the fifth.

Palmyra was outhit 10-3 in the loss, with two of those hits coming from losing pitcher Isaac Blatt.

Softball

Lampeter-Strasburg 11, Annville-Cleona 0 (5 innings)

In Annville, A-C suffered its first loss in league play, going down to the Section Three power Pioneers in five innings.

The Little Dutchmen managed just two hits in the shutout loss, singles from Morgan Zimmerman and Alissa Binkley.

Garden Spot 1, Cedar Crest 0

In New Holland, the Falcons dropped a close one despite a stellar pitching effort from Maddie Gable.

Gable struck out 11 and allowed only four hits, but the Spartans plated the game's only run in the bottom of the sixth and held on for the win.

Lancaster Mennonite 10, Northern Lebanon 3

The Vikings continued to struggle, following up Wednesday's deflating loss to Elco with a lopsided setback at Mennonite.

Northern Lebanon led 3-1 heading into the bottom of the fourth, when the Blazers scored three times to pull ahead for good.

Warwick 18,  Lebanon 1 (5 innings)

The Warriors scored three runs or more in every inning to force the mercy rule. Nichole Mengel feasted at the plate to lead Warwick, going 3-for-3 with two doubles, four RBI, and three runs scored. Ashley Kropf and Katelyn Roth had the only hits of the day for the Cedars.

Donegal 19, Lebanon Catholic 1 (4 innings)

On Assumption Hill, the Beavers were overwhelmed by Section Three powerhouse Donegal in this mercy-rule setback.

Catholic was outhit 15-2 and plated its only run in the bottom of the fourth.

Boys Tennis

Elco 3, Conrad Weiser 2

In Myerstown, the Raiders pulled out a non-league win with the help of singles victories from Christian Stahl and Dawson Smith.

Adam Omar and Ryan Woelfling added a win at No.1 doubles to push Elco over the top.

Palmyra 5, Trinity 0

In Palmyra, Ben Rusling's commanding 6-0, 6-1 victory at No. 1 singles helped the Cougars sweep past the Shamrocks.

Pequea Valley 7, Northern Lebanon 0

The long trip to Kinzers proved to be difficult for the Vikings, who did not win a set in the shutout loss.

Ephrata 4, Lebanon 3

The Cedars dropped a tough one, but kept it close thanks to singles wins from Cameron Weaver and Luke Foster and a doubles triumph by Alex Hartman and Alex Mease.

Girls Lacrosse

Berks Catholic 13, Cedar Crest 6

In South Lebanon, the Falcons fell to the Berks County reps, who were powered by three goals and an assist apiece from Meredith Finneran and Taylor Dimmerling.

Boys Volleyball

Northern York 3, Palmyra 0

The Cougars were swept by the Polar Bears, but got five kills from Mike Hall, seven digs from Tanner Yaw and 12 assists from Tyler Sheaffer in the loss.
