Lebanon County HS Highlights: April 1

Game of the night

Palmyra girls lacrosse 11, Conestoga Valley 7

Big days from Kiley Gallagher and Nikki Bowman led the Cougars to the win over the Buckskins. Gallagher led Palmyra with five goals and an assist on the afternoon, while Bowman followed with a hat trick and an assist.

The other three Palmyra goals came from Cheyenne Sprecher twice, and Paige Frye. Sprecher and Frye also had an assist each. The Cougars also out shot the Buckskins 23-11 in the win.

“We were more patient on offense and played the possession game,” said Palmyra coach Jen Lutz. "We had a lot more quality possessions this time around."

Riley Cook also recorded four saves in the Cougar goal in the win.

In the win, the Cougars overcame some odd circumstances due to the late afternoon storms that whipped through the area. After game time was moved up to 4 p.m., the storms then caused about an hour rain delay. Then the game was moved from a grass field to a turf field because of the conditions.

“It was a struggle. But moving to the turf it was either gaining possession than when we were on the grass," Lutz said. "But our senior leadership really stepped up. It was a great team effort.”

Player of the day

Kiley Gallagher, Palmyra girls lacrosse

The Cougars senior was responsible for nearly half her team's goals in an 11-7 win over Conestoga Valley Friday. Gallagher finished with five goals and an assist on the afternoon in the victory.

"She’s an offensive and team leader. She’s very confident and very skilled athlete," said Palmyra coach Jen Lutz. "She got a lot of great looks from her teammates."

Softball

Milton Hershey 10, Lebanon 7

Despite big days from Emily Fake and Aurianis Lassalle, the Cedars couldn’t taste sweet victory in a 10-7 loss at Milton Hershey Friday in non-league action. Fake went 4-for-4 on the day with two RBIs, while Lassalle went 3-for-3 on the day with a double and two RBIs. After a back and forth game through four and a half with Lebanon up 5-4, the Spartans answered by pouring on five runs to pull away for the win.

Baseball

Lebanon 10, Milton Hershey 0 (5 innings)

The Cedars baseball team fared much better in their matchup with the Spartans. Lebanon was relentless in the bottom of the third inning, putting nine runs on the board that led to the big win. Cody Kissinger and Dharlim Vasquez led the Cedars with two 2 RBIs and Daniel Caricabeur tossed an abbreviated five-inning shutout on the mound.

Boys Tennis

Elizabethtown 7, Northern Lebanon 0

It was a tough day for the Vikings, as they were unable to come away with any victories. NL’s John Ordona lost his match with E-town’s Dean McBride, 6-1, 6-0 in No. 1 singles. In No. 2 singles, the Vikings’ Nick Rhoads fell to the Bears Lucas Overmoyer, 6-0, 6-3.

Tulpehocken 6, Lebanon 1

In New Schaefferstown, the Cedars' search for their first win continued in vain. Lebanon's lone win came via a doubles triumph by Cameron Weaver and Luke Foster.
