2017 Public Opinion Wrestling All-Stars

FIRST TEAM

CHANDLER OLSON, Shippensburg sr., 126: Olson finished a sterling career with a 147-19 career mark (.886), which included a gaudy four PIAA medals ... The Drexel recruit was 43-4 this year ... He won Section III, was second in District 3 and placed fifth at states by winning five consolation bouts ... Shippensburg coach Tony Yaniello said, "Chandler rewrote all the records at Ship he already had (wins in career and season, 61 pins). He's quite a student of the sport. He had higher goals at states, but it seemed like every year he was in a loaded bracket. What a fantastic career."

LUKE NICHTER, Chambersburg, fr., 160: It was anticipated that Nichter would be good as a freshman - even after gaining 30 pounds in a year - and he didn't disappoint ... He put together a 32-11 record with 15 pins, won a Section III title and was a runner-up in District 3 Class 3A ... At states, he placed sixth ... Trojan coach Matt Mentzer said, "He got bigger but didn't compromise his style. He wrestled well against good kids at the Beast, then later in the season he started beating kids of that caliber. We knew he had that kind of ability."

CAMERON TINNER, Shippensburg, sr., 285: In his last two seasons, Tinner racked up a remarkable 71-6 record, including 37-4 this year ... Of the six defeats, four were at states ... "He had 15 tech falls in his career, which is unusual for a heavyweight," Hound coach Tony Yaniello said. "We didn't know for sure what would happen by moving to 285, but he dominated most kids. Only the best in the state, who were big and quick, could beat him." ... Tinner was a Section III champion and a District 3 Class 3A runner-up ... In his career, he scored 51 pins.

COLE FORRESTER, Shippensburg, jr., 195: Had it not been for three close defeats against Blake Barrick of Big Spring, Forrester's season would have been even better ... As it was, he went 38-7 with 13 pins ... Forrester was second in the Trojan Wars to Barrick, third in Section III and fourth in District 3 Class 3A ... He also went 2-2 in the PIAA Tournament ... Ship coach Tony Yaniello said, "He'll be at 220 next year and it'll be exciting to see what will happen. He had a great year and wrestled his best at states. He just couldn't get over the hump with Barrick."

AURELIUS DUNBAR, Mercersburg Academy, fr., 145: Dunbar, from Greencastle, made a splashy debut for the Blue Storm, going 25-6 and placing sixth at the National Prep Tournament ... He also took second in the Pa. Preps and rolled up 13 pins ... "I tried not to have too many expectations for him other than to work hard, and he did that," Mercersburg coach Nate Jacklin said. "He is very humble. I expect big things from him next year. We need to keep working on him mentally, so he doesn't put too much pressure on himself in big matches, but he's capable of beating anybody."

AARON RUMP, Chambersburg, sr., 138: Rump took second in Section III and was favored to reach the District 3 final and earn his second trip to states, but he was DQ'd at weigh-ins for a skin disease that may have been misdiagnosed ... It ended a 29-6 season and put his career mark at 128-31, tied for the third-most Trojan wins ... "Aaron was just so consistent - 30 wins every year," Chambersburg coach Matt Mentzer said. "He beat everybody he was supposed to beat and was solid in all three positions." ... Rump hopes to wrestle for the Coast Guard Academy next year.

DRAKE BRENIZE, Chambersburg, jr., 152: Trojan coach Matt Mentzer said, "Before this year he had only three pins, and we used to joke with him about it. But he had 13 this year. He's extremely strong and works hard in the weight room, plus he's an amazingly conditioned athlete. He found ways to win at the end of matches because of that." ... Brenize was 31-12 ... He placed third in Section III, took fourth in District 3 Class 3A and went 0-2 at states ... "He's really starting to develop," Mentzer said.

SETH EGOLF, Waynesboro, sr., 195: Of Egolf's 28 wins, 22 came by pin, which led the area ... "He's really strong - he just has good farm boy strength," Indian coach Dan Craig said. "But he's really laid back and coachable. I could show him something and he would go out the next match and pin somebody with it. He was somebody the team counted on all year." ... Egolf was 28-11 and placed second in Section IV and sixth in District 3 Class 3A ... He led his team with 168 team points - each of his 28 wins came by pin or forfeit.

JEFFREY RUSSELL, Shippensburg, fr., 106: Russell had a quality first season, even though he was wrestling under weight all year ... He went 24-13 with 15 pins ... "He's already getting bigger and should have a good season next year," Hound coach Tony Yaniello said. "I think he can be something special. He had a good postseason and got a lot of experience. He had a great first season." ... Russell placed third in Section III, then went 2-2 at the District 3 Class 3A tournament.

MATT McCANN, Waynesboro, so., 120: McCann had a productive postseason, taking fourth in Section IV, then reaching the semifinals of the District 3 Class 3A tournament before ending up in sixth place ... He was 25-14 for the season, including 14 pins and 5 major decisions ... "He's another one that's real coachable," Boro coach Dan Craig said. "At districts, we came up with a game plan for him and he stuck with it - and got very close to getting to states. He's very dangerous when he's on top."
