WRESTLING: Thursday, Chambersburg crushes East

CHAMBERSBURG - Chambersburg’s wrestling team pretty much followed the script that coach Matt Mentzer laid out for it Thursday night.

What resulted was a 53-15 Mid Penn Commonwealth Division victory over Central Dauphin East at CASHS Field House that gave the Trojans their eighth consecutive win.

“It played out about the way we thought it would,” Mentzer said. “We started at 132, and Aaron Rump and Garrett Kyner put up two quick tech falls like they were supposed to do, and then the rest went about how we expected it to.”

Chambersburg (8-3, 3-3 MPC) received pins from Matt Strunk (160), Drew Peck (182), Phillipe Lozius (285) and Spencer Runshaw (120).

“Strunk had a nice pin and Lozius got his first pin of the season,” Mentzer said. “Jesse Kaiser won 6-0 for his first varsity win.”

Colin Runshaw (152) and Dalton Grace (195) both won by decision, and Cole Grove (126) captured a 16-5 major decision.

Drake Brenize (145) met the Panthers’ toughest wrestler, Mahlon Chase, at 145 and dropped a 4-2 verdict. Chase had also edged Brenize at the Trojan Wars tournament.

For the Rockets (0-10, 0-5 MPC), Kyle Lee pinned Austin Wise at 138, and Seth Carbaugh scored a 9-1 major decision over Seth Egolf at 195.

JB coach Matt Gordon said, “We weren’t sure who Lee would go against, but we wanted the best match we could get. Wise is a good opponent, but he was wrestling in his first match of the year. Kyle dominated him and was up 11-1 when he reversed him to his back for the pin (in 4:39).”

At 195, Carbaugh used a double-leg takedown and half to go ahead big over Egolf.

Gordon said, “That was a textbook double - he lifted him up off the ground and put a half in on the way down.”

The Indians (12-3, 3-2 MPC) got pins from Jake Wertz at 152 (in 10 seconds), Patrick Zimmerer (160), Forrest Rhyne (220), Shawn Robinson (285) and Laken Rouzer (113).
