WRESTLING: Saturday, Trojans win dual tourney title

WEST LAWN - Chambersburg had five wrestlers with undefeated records Saturday at the Wilson Duals Tournament and that translated into a 5-0 team record and the tournament championship.

The Trojans defeated Bishop McDevitt (45-21), Hershey (49-22), Dover (54-18), Scranton (36-26) and Conestoga Valley (45-24).

The host, Wilson, also did not lose a meet, but wrestled only four matches.

Chambersburg coach Matt Mentzer said, “They had 10 teams last year and only seven this year, so they decided the matchups would be drawn randomly. We would have liked to meet Wilson - they are ranked No. 4 in the district.”

The unbeaten wrestlers for the Trojans (6-3) included Spencer Runshaw (106), Garrett Kyner (138), Colin Runshaw (152), Greg Wallace (182) and Drew Peck (195).

Peck had three pins and two forfeits and one his pins was accomplished in a mere 0:07 over Scranton’s Brian McGiugan. Colin Runshaw also picked up a trio of falls.

Kyner, ranked No. 6 in the state, included a 2-1 victory over Scranton’s Rui Evanitsky, who is ranked No. 23.

Four other wrestlers - Seth Runshaw (106), Cole Grove (126), Aaron Rump (132) and Drake Brenize (145) - each went 4-1.

Mentzer said, “Cole had a solid 5-3 win over Luke Pipa of McDevitt. Aaron’s loss was 1-0 to his brother, John Pipa (PIAA Class AA runner-up last year). Brenize wrestled five pretty good kids and had all close matches.

“The kids competed well and came home happy,” Mentzer said. “We had a lot of really good individual matchups.”
