State College blanks Chambersburg in volleyball, 3-0

Against a good girls volleyball team like State College, Chambersburg needed to be on point Thursday night.

But the Trojans were not in command of their A game and dropped a 3-0 verdict in a Mid Penn Commonwealth Division match at CASHS Field House to the Little Lions.

"They served really well and we did not pass very well on our serve return," Chambersburg coach Ty Frelin said. "We also were not strong with our blocking, and we missed too many serves.

"We're just not quite there yet. We're doing a few too many little things wrong."

State College (4-0, 4-0 MPC) got out to a big lead in the first game, then made it very tight at the end, with the Little Lions prevailing 25-23. In the second, State College led only 17-15 before running off a streak of eight straight on their way to a 25-15 win.

The third game was a 25-22 win for the Little Lions, but Frelin said it could have been reversed.

"In that third set, we missed eight serves and lost by three - you just can't miss eight serves and expect to beat a good team," he said. "We shot ourselves in the foot."

Haley Holsopple led the Trojans (2-2, 1-2 MPC) with 11 kills. Danessa Martin dug up 13 balls and Baliee Nitterhouse had 12 digs. Lauren Ching assisted on 26 kills and Jenna Lombardozzi had two aces and eight digs. Ashley Adams and Ching each had four kills.

Frelin said, "Our biggest problem was that we played from behind the whole night."
