And now, one of Greencastle-Antrim’s most decorated athletes has added another gold medal to her collection after winning the District 3 Class 3A girls shot put with a winning throw of 41-6.5.

“This is a huge accomplishment for me,” Faulkner said. “This was one of my biggest goals at the beginning of the season so it feels really good to get it done.”

At the District 3 meet last year, Faulkner was a surprise fourth-place district medalist and moved on to finish fourth at the PIAA championships, and said she hadn’t taken the shot put very seriously before districts, and vowed to improve in the coming year.

Mission accomplished.

“I’ve definitely focused more on the shot put this year,” Faulkner said. “I’ve been hitting the weight room and working on my technique more. I’ve worked on a lot - the gliding part is definitely better and my stance when I hit is better.”

Faulkner opened the finals with a throw of 41-1, more than three feet farther than her best throw at the Mid Penn Conference championships last week.

Faulkner fouled on her third attempt, but her second throw of 41-6.5 was enough to take home gold and beat the field by nearly two feet.

“(Getting that throw) was a big confidence boost because I haven’t been throwing well lately,” Faulkner said. “Being so consistent in this meet is really going to help me out in the state meet.”
