Chambersburg fares well at MPC championships
On a rainy, dreary day, where is the one place you want to be?

Fortunately for Chambersburg, Saturday's Mid Penn Conference track & field championships was just another day at the office from the comfort of their own home stadium.
And it showed.
The Trojans had a fine day at the Mid Penn meet, competing for conference titles all the while preparing for top performances at the District 3 championships last week.
One of the biggest highlights of the day was Reagan Winebrenner, who won gold in the girls discus with a throw of 121-11 to beat out Jordan Blair of state College.
"It was my second throw of the trials, and after something like that happens you can kind of rest easy, and relax a little more," Winebrenner said. "The girl I beat has always been ahead of me so it makes me a little more confident going into districts and states that I can improve on my seed."
Winebrenner also placed third in the girls shot put with a throw of 34-07.50.
"Reagan was our lone (girls) champion and beat a girl who has her number a little bit this year so that was really good to see," Chambersburg girls coach Chris Monheim said. "Overall our intent at this meet is to improve our chances and seeds for next week."
On the boys side, Kelton Chastulik became a four-time Mid Penn shot put champion with a heave of 57-07.25, followed by his teammate Myles Braxton in second with a throw of 52-04.75. Chambersburg freshman Brock Harmon placed eighth in his first conference championships with a throw of 45-7.5.
Chastulik also placed second in the discus at 172-09, while Braxton placed 11th with a throw of 134-11.
The girls 4x100 exceeded expectations, placing second in 49.16 for what would be a state-qualifying time. The team will need to match that time next week in districts to qualify for the PIAA meet, but girls coach Chris Monheim said the team has been improving now with a consistent lineup.
"That was a real highlight today," Monheim said. "It's taken all season to figure out who those four girls were going to be and they had great exchanges today."
Cameron Greenlee, the girls 4x100 anchor, said, "It was really good we had a really good first leg with Secret (Shaffer), and Ariana (Appenzeller) kept it going strong and same with Sydnie (Gilbert) so at the end I just had to bring it too."
Ariana Appenzeller placed ninth in the girls 200 in 26.62 followed by Secret Shaffer in 11th in 26.73.
Sophomore Trayton Barnette scored 11 of Chambersburg boys' 40 points on the day with a third-place finish in the 300 hurdles (41.21) and fourth place in the 110 in 15.18, which will qualify him for the district meet next week.
"That was a lifetime best for (Barnett) on a less-than-ideal day," Chambersburg boys coach Bob Walker said. "He wanted to break 15:00, but I keep telling him, as soon as he gets a weather break, it's going to happen."

Distance runner Cadie Kiser had a top-five finish in the 3200, crossing the line in fourth place in 11:34.89, while teammate Livvy Sommers cracked the top 10 in the two mile race with a finish in 11:51.75 for ninth. In the girls 1600, Abby Yourkavitch placed third in 5:04.85 followed by Kaylee Mowery in 12th in 5:24.45. Yourkavitch also placed sixth in the 800 (2:20.55), while Mowery placed 10th in 2:22.96.
"Cadie Kiser had a really nice day, she dropped 20 seconds today in the 3200 and I think that will be enough to get her to next week," Monheim said.
Freshman Breya Clopper placed seventh in the girls 300 hurdles in 47.77, just missing the district qualifying standard.
Nate Reed took seventh in the boys long jump with a leap of 20-04.75. Jocelyn Kibbe tied for fifth in the girls pole vault, clearing 9-06. Jaelynn Walker vaulted 9-00 to tie for seventh.
The girls 4x800 relay team placed third overall in 9:42.35. Maya Washington placed ninth in the girls 400 with a time of 1:01.34, while Quintan Barbour placed ninth in the boys 400 in 51.99.
The Chambersburg girls team finished fourth overall with 51 points, while the boys team claimed fifth with 40 points.
"(The boys) were 3-4 in duals but finished fifth overall in the conference so I think that really shows how good the Commonwealth Division is," Walker said.
