SWIMMING: Mercersburg girls 1st at Easterns


PHILADELPHIA - Mercersburg Academy's girls swimming team got off to a fast start Friday at the Eastern Interscholastic Swimming & Diving Championships at La Salle University.

The Blue Storm lead the way with 242 points, while the Mercersburg's boys have 130 points, putting them in sixth place after Day 1 of the two-day event.

For the girls, Mercersburg was paced by the 200 freestyle relay team of Sarah O’Leary, Morgan King, Lauren Ferner and Lindsay Tanner, which won the championship final, finishing in a time of 1:35.78. They were awarded 48 team points for the victory.

The girls 200 medley relay quartet of King, Stephanie Downing, Courtney Levins, and Danielle Pong placed second with a time of 1:47.37, while Tanner notched second in the 200 free (1:51.89).

On the boys side, Andrew Zhugayevich led the way with a second-place effort in the 200 free, and the 200 free relay team of Zhugayevich, Jake Girard, Ben Carter, and Eric Oh placed third (1:25.68).
