SWIMMING: Trojans take 2nd and 3rd at Pentathlon

HAGERSTOWN, Md. - The Chambersburg girls and boys swim teams placed second and third at the 8th annual Erik Meinelschmidt Pentathlon, respectively, on Saturday.

Every swimmer competed in each of the five events at the invitational, making it a good time for coaches to see the progress of each swimmer.

And according to the results, Chambersburg's boys continue to create waves.

Andrew Leeper placed second overall in points, winning the 100 freestyle with a 49.95 finish. Leeper also placed in the top five of each event. Avery Barley placed fourth overall, and took gold in the 100 backstroke, beating his personal best time with a 55.76 finish.

"This is an interesting meet because the swimmers get to swim all five events," Chambersburg coach Chad White said. "They're more tired after this meet because it's always back-to-back. It's definitely a test of endurance."

Waynesboro's Lyle Schlegel placed first in the 200 IM with a 1:55.79 finish, and placed in the top 15 in three events (200 IM, 100 fly, 100 free).

On the girls side, Erika Rundquist and Ashlyn Ellis we're top finishers for Chambersburg, with five finishes in the top 15 for both swimmers.

Waynesboro's Michaela Piper placed in the top 15 in four events - 200 IM, 100 fly, 100 free and 100 breaststroke.
