F-F Highlights: SF moves on to D5 semis

Southern Fulton's Dylan Gordon played hero Wednesday bringing in the game-winning RBIs in a close 2-0 win over Hyndman in the first round of the District 5 Class 1A playoffs. 

In the bottom of the third, Gordon hit a double to left to score Cooper Grove and Mitch Potter. 

From there Carl Potter went to work on the mound, throwing seven shutout innings in just 68 pitches - 54 for strikes. He struck out nine batters and allowed just three hits. 

"He was ahead in the count all night and kept them off balance," SF coach Keith Potter said. "He was in control of the game and that was huge. He could get ahead and start throwing his off-speed pitches and he's tough when that happens."

The Indians will take on Meyersdale in the semifinal on Tuesday, May 30 at Bedford. 

Southern Fulton lost to Meyersdale this past Saturday, and Potter expects another good game next Tuesday. 

"They have the best player in the district (in Riley Christner) and they're well coached," Potter said. "We are going to have our hands full, but if we come out and play well defensively, we should be in every game we play."

Cardinals fall to Meyersdale: The first five innings of a District 5 Class 1A baseball game between Forbes Road and Meyersdale was a classic pitchers' duel against the top pitcher in the district, and a top underclassman prospect for Forbes Road. 

Meyersdale's Riley Christner pitched seven shutout innings, and struck out 11 batters along the way. 

But battling against him was Forbes Road's Graycen Hall, who struck out 10 batters in five innings. But despite Hall's stellar showing on the mound, Meyersdale strung together four runs in the bottom of the sixth inning for the eventual game-winning runs. 

McConnellsburg softball overwhelmed by Meyersdale: Meyersdale scored eight runs in the second inning to put the game out of reach for the McConnellsburg softball team in a 13-2 first-round loss during the District 5 Class 1A playoffs. 

The Red Raiders scored 13 runs off 12 hits to end the game in five innings. 

McConnellsburg scored its only runs of the game in the first inning.
