F-F Highlights: Shippensburg earns shutout baseball win


Brady Kuhn pitched a five-inning shutout Saturday morning to lead Shippensburg to a 3-0 non-league baseball victory over Fairfield.

Kuhn allowed five hits and two walks, but struck out six in the game, which was halted after five innings by rain.

The Greyhounds (2-6), scored single runs in the first, third and fourth innings. Ship got RBI hits from Colton Zeigler, Matt Frick and Trey Lynch and the team totaled five stolen bases, including two by Clayton Stine.

TOUGH COMPETITION: The Chambersburg boys volleyball team faced a gauntlet of good teams at the Central York Tournament on Saturday. The Trojans went 3-5 in pool play to finish third - vs. Central York (15-25, 18-25), Parkland (26-24, 20-25), Exeter (25-15, 25-19) and Pennsbury (22-25, 26-27), then lost to Hempfield in a first-round playoff match, 25-18.

Spencer Rajtik (24) and Kellen Stepler (22) led in assists, Nate Walker had 8 kills, 6 block kills and 3 aces, Steven Swain had 15 kills and 4 block kills, Aaron Myers had 13 kills, Dalton Strite led in aces (4) and had 15 kills, Trey Stepler was the leader in digs with 23 and Wesley Newman had 13 digs.

Baseball

  • Greencastle-Antrim suffered its first loss of the season, 4-3 to Hershey, when the Trojans' Owen Deflitch singled in a run with one out in the bottom of the seventh inning. The Blue Devils led 2-1 after a 2-run home run by Evan Maun, and again 3-2 when Tanner Rock drove in a run.
  • Jayvien Sandridge threw a 2-hitter with 8 strikeouts to lead Mercersburg Academy over Hun, 4-2, in the first game, but Hun retaliated with a 15-4 second game win.

Softball

  • James Buchanan was defeated 15-9 by West Perry, as the Mustangs' Jordan Santapietro collected 7 RBIs. For the Rockets, Jenna Mongold was 3-for-4 with a home run.
