H.S. Highlights: Southern Fulton wins 6th straight

After taking a 3-0 lead over Chestnut Ridge late in a Sideling Hill League game on Friday, things looked to be smooth sailing for the Southern Fulton baseball team.

But the Indians wanted some extra insurance.

Southern Fulton punched in six more runs in the top of the seventh, paired with a solid outing on the mound by Carl Potter, to give the Indians a 9-0 victory over the Lions.

Potter pitched seven shutout innings, allowed five hits and struck out five batters along the way. The Indians were led by Branden Lynch, who went 2-for-4 at the plate with three RBIs. Eaven Gordon drove in two runs off a pair of hits. Cooper Grove and Tanner Elbin also had two hits.

WALKOFF WIN: McConnellsburg's Sam Hensley played hero Friday in a walkoff win over Forbes Road after the Lady Spartans came back from a two-run deficit in the sixth inning to claim a 7-6 softball victory.

Tied at six in the bottom of the seventh inning, Kailey Swope hit a single and then stole second base. Mattalyn Ross hit a sacrifice bunt to move Swope to third before Hensley brought her home with a single up the middle for the game-winning run.

Bridgette Ritchey and Destiny Hall each had two RBIs and Hensley, Madison Koontz and Swope each had two hits. Carly Swope earned the win in the circle.

Courtney Schoen drove in two runs for the Cardinals and struck out four McConnellsburg batters. Maddy Miller went 2-for-3 for Forbes Road.

• Forbes Road's Grayson Hall had a solid outing against McConnellsburg, allowing just two hits through 6 2/3 innings and striking out six batters. Matt Brown was 2-3 with an RBI for the Cardinals in the 5-2 victory. 

Track & field

• Isiuwa Oghagbon broke her own Mercersburg Academy discus record with a throw of 134-3 at the Cardinal Classic.
