F-F Highlights: Jamal Riley has big day for JB track

The James Buchanan track & field team got a blowout win by the boys over Big Spring, 115-35, on Tuesday in a Mid Penn Colonial Division meet, while the Rocket girls were edged, 77-73.

For the boys, Jamal Riley had an exceptional day, take first place in three individual events - the 100 (11.21), the 200 (23.20) and the long jump (20-4.25).

Clayton Bendell (javelin, high jump) and Jae-Lin Carmack (110, 300 hurdles) were also double winners for JB (2-0, 2-0 MPC).

For the Rocket girls (0-2, 0-2 MPC), Leah Wingert captured the pole vault and triple jump, while Siara Gossert won the discus and javelin.

Softball

Trojans suffer first loss: Cedar Cliff took advantage of some shaky defense by Chambersburg to hand the Trojans their first softball loss of the season, 9-2 in a Mid Penn Commonwealth Division game. The Colts scored seven unearned runs in the bottom of the third inning.

In the top of the first, the Trojans' Lexi Leedy reached base and stole second. But she was tagged in the head with the ball and was injured, then called out when she rolled off the bag. The injury caused the game to be halted for about 15 minutes.

Chambersburg coach Chris Skultety said, "We were ahead 1-0 at that point, but it seemed like that took the wind out of us. We weren't catching fly balls or making routine plays. We kind of fell apart after Lexi got hurt. It was one of those games where things just snowballed. We'll have to find out how mentally tough we are, because we have some big games coming up."

Leah Hunt was 3-for-4 for Chambersburg (6-1, 4-1 MPC).
