F-F Highlights: James Buchanan softball earns 1st win

The third time was the charm for the Red Land at James Buchanan softball game, especially for the Rockets.

JB's season opener had been postponed twice, but when the weather cooperated Monday afternoon, the Rockets came through with a 9-1 non-league victory over the Patriots.

"It was nice to finally get on the field and play," James Buchanan coach Troy Pittman said. "We have a lot of younger players and I thought everybody played well in their first game situation. We had a lot of firsts today, like somebody's first varsity hit or run batted in."

Jenna Mongold took care of the pitching, giving up six hits and a walk, and striking out 12 Red Land batters.

Brooke Pittman batted leadoff and went 3-for-4 with a pair of RBIs. Carly Caron belted a bases-loaded triple in the Rockets' six-run sixth inning that sewed up the victory, and Maria Burkett, Cara Bender, Maddie Bailey and Paige Doyle each had two hits for JB.
