F-F Highlights: JB splits to start tennis season

After easily defeating Tussey Mountain in a non-league match to start the season, James Buchanan's boys tennis team turned around on Tuesday afternoon and was handed a Mid Penn Colonial Division loss at the hands of Bishop McDevitt.

At Nos. 1 and 2 singles, the Rockets (1-1, 0-1 MPC) remained undefeated, as Isaac Shenton and Micah Wise each picked up three-set victories.

Shenton gutted out a 7-5 win in the first set before being dominated to the tune of 6-2. But he easily rebounded for a 6-1 third-set win at No. 1. Likewise, Wise split the first two matches before claiming a 6-4 win in the decisive third.

But that was all she wrote for JB, as No. 3 singles and both doubles team combined for just eight game wins.

Shalom dominates in season-opener: It didn't take long for Brooke Emge to start her scoring ways. She opened the season with a five-goal performance, helping Shalom Christian to a Mason-Dixon Christian Conference win over Broadfording.

After a scoreless 20 minutes to start the game, Emge scored three goals in under 20 minutes, and a tally by Sadie Bland put the Flames (1-0, 1-0 MDCC) ahead 4-0 at halftime.

Bethany Blank also added a hat trick, and Kylie Eby scored once.
