7 F-F athletes qualify for indoor track state meet

School records were falling left and right for the Chambersburg indoor track & field team at the State College Invitational last weekend, with three records broken at the final invite before the PTFCA Indoor State Championships this weekend.

Abby Yourkavitch improved her own indoor school record in the 3000 with a first-place finish in 10:16.1 to meet the state guideline and qualify for the state event this weekend. Trayton Barnette broke a 10-year-old indoor record in the 60 hurdles, with a finish in 8.6 seconds.

The final record to fall was in the boys medley relay event, as the team compiled Donovan Hazelton, Luke Myers, Quin Mangan and James Merkle broke the record set in 2007 with a fourth-place finish in 3:48.4.

Reagan Winebrenner (girls shot put, 38-11.5) and Kaylee Mowery (girls 1600, 5:14.4) also met the state qualification guidelines in the final invitational before the state meet. They will be joined by Yourkavitch and Kelton Chastulik (boys shot put) at the PTFCA Indoor State Championships this Saturday in State College.

Greencastle-Antrim's Campbell Parker and Taryn Parks have also qualified for the state indoor meet. Parker's third-place throw of 56-0 in the shot put at the PTFCA Indoor Track Carnival qualified him. Parks won the 1600 at the State College Invitational in 5:08.9 to punch her ticket to the state meet.

After the state competition, Parker will move on to the indoor nationals, for which he has qualified in both the shot put and the weight throw. Nationals will be held in Boston from March 10-12.

Mercersburg's Mikale Williams has also qualified to compete in the indoor championships in the long jump.
