F-F Highlights: Shippensburg bounces back from loss

Nice bounceback

Shippensburg suffered a tough boys basketball loss Friday night to Waynesboro, but the Greyhounds came back Saturday with a good non-league win over Cumberland Valley, 63-48.

“Sometimes the players have more faith in themselves than their coach does,” Ship coach Ray Staver said. “Every player who stepped on the court today played well. We followed the game plan well on defense and we won every quarter.”

The Hounds (12-5) also hit 24 of 28 shots from the free throw line.

Cody Gustafson scored 19 points, Carter Van Scyoc had 18 and Brady Kuhn added 11.

3 champions

Shippensburg placed second as a team and crowned a trio of champions at the Ultimate Warrior Wrestling Tournament at West Branch on Saturday.

Chandler Olson dropped down to 126 pounds for the first time this season and went 4-0. He majored Dalton Daugherty of Marion Center in the semifinals and beat Josh Mason of Ridgway 7-2 in the final.

At 195, Cole Forrester captured a 12-1 major over Kolby Flank of Wilson in the semis, then edged Altoona's Parker McClellan 4-3 in the championship.

Cameron Tinner notched his third pin of the tourney in the 285 semifinals, over Kaleb Konigus of Lake Lehman, then bested Ridgway's Colton McClain 9-4 in the final.

Also for the Hounds, Levi Shoemaker was fourth at 160, Ian Reed took fifth at 138 and Eddie Ocker (152) and Collin Dolbin (220) placed sixth.

Altoona won the event with 185.5 points, followed by Ship (171), Wilson (156.5), Bald Eagle Area (151.5) and Mifflin County (135.5).
