F-F Highlights, Chambersburg doubles up on Carlisle


With three bouts remaining, Chambersburg found itself clinging to a 27-21 advantage over Carlisle in a Mid Penn Commonwealth Division wrestling match Thursday night.

But the Trojans got a pin from Spencer Runshaw at 126, a 5-2 decision by Cole Grove at 132 and Aaron Rump's pin at 138 to clinch a 42-21 victory.

Luke Nichter (160), Drew Peck (195), Dalton Grace (220) and Phillipe Lozius (285) also secured falls for Chambersburg (9-3, 2-2 MPC). Peck's came in just 21 seconds and Grace needed only 41 seconds.

Drake Brenize won his seventh straight bout by pulling out a 10-8 win in sudden victory over the Herd's Logan Huff.

On the track

McConnellsburg's McKenzie Gelvin competed last weekend at the Kevin Dare Indoor Track Invitational at Penn State, an event that drew teams from five states, and established two personal bests in the 400 and 800.

Gelvin took fifth among 52 runners in the 400 with a time of 58.66. The winner, Alexis Crosby of Cheltenham, clocked a 55.61, the best in the state so far. In the 800, Gelvin ran a 2:22.99, good for seventh among 53 runners. The winner, Samantha Peterman of Sweet Home, N.Y., finished in 2:18.80.

Early in the indoor season, Gelvin's 400 time is the fourth-best in PA and the 800 ranks 10th.

  • James Buchanan 113-pounder Derek Pine wrapped up his bout with West Perry's Eithan Weibley quickly on Thursday, pinning Weibley in just 20 seconds. Pine has won five straight bouts.
  • Ethan Zimmerman (132) and Nick Wolf (195) picked up the only non-forfeit victories for Greencastle-Antrim in a 60-11 loss to Big Spring.

Girls basketball

  • Drew Hann (21) and Olivia Mottern (20) tallied 41 of Southern Fulton's 50 points in a 50-39 Sideling Hill/Inter-County Conference win over Fannett-Metal. Hann's previous career-high had been 10 points. Taylor Coffman led the Tigers with 11.
  • Cumberland Valley Christian fell 51-38 to Heritage Academy, but the Blazers' Kyleigh Teal broke out for 15 points, which beat her previous career high by one point.
