F-F Highlights: Chambersburg's Drew Peck places 4th at Beast

Drew Peck of Chambersburg made his way into the semifinals of the Beast of the East wrestling tournament at 182 pounds on Sunday morning.

Then he ran into a beast in Michael Beard of Malvern Prep.

Beard, ranked No. 1 in the country at that weight, handed Peck a 15-0 technical fall in 4:13 to send Peck to the consolation rounds. He won one more bout, 3-1 over Jack Parr of St. Paul's (Md.), then fell 3-0 to A.J. Pedro of Philips Exeter Academy (N.H.) to finish in fourth place.

Peck, who had two pins Saturday, ended up 4-2 in the tournament.

Trojan coach Matt Mentzer said, "Beard is the real deal. Drew had wrestled the No. 2-ranked guy, but Beard was the best by far. Drew just couldn't get started and got caught on his back a few times."

Aaron Rump went 5-2 at 138 pounds and fell one win short of a medal. Drake Brenize (152) and Dalton Grace (195) each went 3-2, while Seth Runshaw (120), Cole Grove (132) and Luke Nichter (160) were all 2-2.

"You go to these tournaments to find out what the kids have to do better, and we found some things," Mentzer said. "If you can come out with a winning record, that's some quality wrestling."
