H.S. Highlights: Ship wins 4 titles at Carlisle
The top end of Shippensburg’s lineup ran roughshod over the competition, and Chandler Olson added more laurels to his career at the Carlisle Holiday Wrestling Tournament on Saturday.
The Greyhounds earned four titles - Olson at 132, Cole Forrester at 195, Collin Dolbin at 220 and Cameron Tinner at 285, while Eddie Ocker (152) and Levi Shoemaker (170) captured thirds and Dylan Ramsey (120) took fourth. Ship finished in second place in the team standings behind Methacton.
Olson pinned Bermudian Springs’ Austin Clabaugh in 1:09 with a tight cradle to become a four-time champion at the Carlisle event. He was named the tourney’s Most Outstanding Wrestler and was also given the Rick Trimmer Award for sportsmanship.
Tinner won his second Carlisle crown by dominating West York’s Frank Veloce, 18-6.
Forrester needed overtime to squeeze past Waynesboro’s Seth Egolf, 3-1 - hitting a high-crotch single for the winning points. Dolbin won when Newport’s Walker Klinger was injured and had to default.
Hounds coach Tony Yaniello said, “Collin took him down to his back and the kid’s head bounced off the mat. It wasn’t a slam, but it might have been a concussion. We had a real nice day - I’m proud of the kids.”
Game of the day
The Shippensburg boys basketball team sure made things interesting Saturday in a non-league contest against Muhlenburg, pulling out a 52-49 win in the last minute of play.
Despite holding a 12-point lead at the half, the Greyhounds let the Mules apply pressure, and they brought the game within one point with less than a minute remaining. But a pair of free throws dropped in by Brady Kuhn with 17 seconds left gave Shippensburg the edge it needed to lock in the win.
"We got stuck on 45; we were there for a long time," Shippensburg coach Ray Staver said. "They started to rain threes on us in the second half, but we had some big buckets in the fourth. Brady was fouled off a rebound and made those two free throws, and they missed a three at the buzzer."

Shippensburg wrestling coach Tony Yaniello, on Cole Forrester’s 3-1 overtime win over Seth Egolf of Waynesboro in the 195-pound final at the Carlisle tournament: “Egolf is a strong boy and tough to score on. Cole didn’t try to force anything, but in overtime he felt the kid tiring a little and hit a nice single and finished it.”
Top performers
Wrestling: Chambersburg’s Drew Peck reached the quarterfinals of the Beast of the East Tournament on Saturday, with a bye and two pins at 182 pounds. The only other Trojans still alive in the consolation rounds were Aaron Rump at 138 and Dalton Grace at 195.
Boys basketball: Southern Fulton freshman Gabe Stotler continued his hot start to the season by scoring 12 points for the Indians in a 63-58 win over Ligonier Valley in the consolation of the Mountain Cat Tournament. Dylan Gordon led the Indians with 27 points, followed by Carl Potter with 11. Gordon also had seven rebounds and five steals.
Cole Christian and Cade Whitfield each contributed double-digit performances for the Trojans in a 48-37 win over Cedar Cliff, Saturday. Christian racked up 18 points for Chambersburg while going 5-for-6 at the foul line, while Whitfield scored 15 and posted a 9-for-13 performance at the charity stripe.
