F-F H.S. Highlights: Friday, Oct. 21


Shalom Christian earned a place in the Mason-Dixon Christian Conference girls volleyball championship match by grinding out a five-set match against Grace Academy in the semifinals on Friday evening.

The Flames (16-3) will meet the other semifinal winner, either Heritage Academy or Cumberland Valley Christian, in the final at 3 p.m. Saturday at Shalom.

Shalom Christian took a one-set lead (25-20), but the Knights snagged the next two (25-23 and 25-23) to pull ahead. But the Flames battled back to win game 4 25-20, then edged Grace 15-13 in the deciding fifth set.

Lauren Stains and Haley Bricker both had monster nights for Shalom - Stains had 17 kills, 12 digs and five aces, while Bricker put up 16 kills, 15 digs, two blocks and three aces.

Also, Kylie Eby piled up 32 assists, Kodi Ebersole had 15 digs and Paige Hoover had 12 digs.

Boys soccer

McConnellsburg 4, Forbes Road 0: Landon Seiders scored three of McConnellsburg’s four goals in an SHL victory over Forbes Road. Ethan Barclay scored the only other goal for the Spartans (14-2-1, 9-1-1 SHL). The Cardinals (3-13-1, 1-10-1 SHL) had just one shot on goal.

Cross country

Mercersburg wins IPSL title: Mercersburg Academy put four runners in the top seven on Friday to win the IPSL girls cross country championship. The Blue Storm had 27 points, to defeat St.Maria Goretti (50), St. James (55) and St. John's Catholic Prep (93).

Sophia Divone of Mercersburg finished in 19:25 to place first, and broke the course record (20:35) at Black Rock Park in Hagerstown, Md. by over a minute. Ryan Geitner was fourth, Katie Hofman fifth and Campbell Drennan took seventh.
