F-F H.S. Highlights: Trojans suffer near-miss

Monday night’s Mid Penn Conference girls lacrosse game came down to the wire.

But unfortunately for Chambersburg, it was Trinity that came out on top. The Shamrocks scored a goal with seven seconds remaining in regulation to earn a 13-12 victory over the Trojans.

“The girls played an outstanding game with very few substitutes, and unfortunately it came down to the final seven seconds,” Chambersburg coach Katie Feairheller said. “It didn’t go in our favor, but it could have.”

With 35 seconds left, Liza Ernst caused a turnover and broke down field for the Trojans (2-10, 1-8 MPC), but Trinity’s goalie kept her team in it with a one-on-one save.

Chambersburg goalie Micaela Champion finished the game with 18 saves.

“She had a phenomenal game,” Feairheller said. “There was quite a few times when they could have taken the lead but Micaela kept us in it with a clutch save.”

Hannah Raines led Chambersburg with four goals, while Ernst had three. Madison Schmus caused three turnovers.

BACK ON TRACK: Despite giving up nine hits and committing five errors, McConnellsburg got itself back in the win column with a 9-4 victory over Chestnut Ridge in Sideling Hill action. The victory broke a nine-game losing skid.

Chase Novak threw the whole game, allowing only two earned runs. He had one walk and one strikeout. McConnellsburg (3-10, 3-8 SHL) managed only four hits but drew 11 walks to help with the victory.

“A few small mental mistakes today in a tight game turned into game changing, game deciding plays,” Southern Fulton coach Dustin Fischer said. “Rider had a tremendous day on the mound, he had 15 strikeouts and only one walk, while topping out in the low 90s.”

Everett 7, Fannett-Metal 2: The SHL/ICC game started out well enough for Fannett-Metal, but Everett scored six runs in the seventh inning to take the victory. The Tigers (4-10, 2-8 SHL/ICC) combined for 10 walks.
