F-F H.S. Highlights for April 30
Chambersburg and Greencastle-Antrim both competed in the Cedar Cliff Relays on Saturday at West Shore Stadium and both found plenty of success.
The Trojans were third in the girls standings and fourth in the boys, while Greencastle was third in the boys and sixth in the girls.
For the Chambersburg boys, Kelton Chastulik and Myles Braxton combined for a mark of 106-0.75 to win the shot put relay, and Kamm Green and Nate Reed scored 82-2.5 to win the triple jump.
Chastulik produced a heave of 57-8 to set a shot put school record, breaking the mark of Tappah Dinnall (56-7), and he and Braxton broke the school record in the relay event, and the meet record set in 1999 by Wilson.
Trojan boys coach Bob Walker said, “They wanted to get all three of those records, so mission accomplished. Myles had his PR, too (over 48 feet). Kamm and Nate have been consistently over 40 and they were today.
“We had two freshmen do really well. James Merkle passed three guys in the third leg of the 4x800 to take us into second, and Trayton Barnette got under 16 (15.9) for the first time in the 110 hurdles, helping them finish second.”
For Greencastle’s boys, Jacob Hockman and Campbell Parker combined to capture the discus (314-10), Zach Koons and Elijah Rickett threw 286-0 to take first in the javelin, and the 4x400 team of Liam Okal, Christopher Bowman, Anthony Fugate and Joe Eberhardt won in a time of 3:32.6.
Chambersburg’s girls took a pair of first place finishes - pole vault and discus. In the pole vault, Abby Zeger and Jocelyn Kibbe combined to jump 18-6, while in the discus, Reagan Winebrenner and Neyda Robles threw a combined 203-10.
Trojan girls coach Chris Monheim said, “I was real pleased with the girls’ effort today. Our distance medley relay (second behind Cumberland Valley) broke the school record by about 20 seconds with a 12:19.9. Cirsten Kelly was really rolling on her 400; that should give her some confidence in that event.”
Cadie Kiser (800), Kaylee Mowery (1200) and Abby Yourkavitch (1600) followed in the relay.
“Our shuttle hurdles team (Robyn Guarriello, Ansley Runk, Caroline Hance, Sydnie Gilbert) was second and all but Robyn are freshmen,” Monheim said.

Baseball
Greencastle 2nd at tournament: The Blue Devils blanked Fleetwood 2-0 in the opener behind winning pitcher Cade Bender (2-0), then fell 9-4 to host Muhlenberg. It was the first loss of the season for Greencastle (10-1).
Waynesboro 4, Spring Grove 2: The Indians (10-3) struck for four runs in the first three innings, Clayton Wolfe pitched five scoreless innings and Zach Kober earned a save with 1 ⅓ hitless innings of relief. Jarrett Biesecker and Nick Irizarry each had two hits.
Mercersburg Academy 3-10, Peddie 2-0: After sweeping the Falcons 3-2 and 10-0, the Blue Storm's record is now 14-4 (7-1 MAPL).
Softball
Shippensburg at Big Spring Tournament: The Lady Hounds placed third at the Big Spring Tournament with a 2-1 record on the day. Shippensburg won its first game against South Western 13-5, and lost to Greencastle-Antrim 12-4 in the semifinal. In the third-place game, Shippensburg (8-5) won 18-9 against Big Spring in a "hit-fest" against the host team.
"The goal is to win the championship, but 2-1 is pretty good," Shippensburg coach Mike Peters said. "We've managed a trophy the last four years, so going 2-1 on the day, all things considered, is OK."
Forbes Road 19-20, St. Maria Goretti 1-0: In Game 1, Courtney Schoen allowed only one hit and fanned nine, and was 3-for-4 with three RBIs for the Cardinals (5-8). Tina Parsons was 2-for-4 with a pair of doubles and three runs knocked in Brianna Waters had two hits and two RBIs.
In the second game, Parsons tossed a three-inning one-hitter with four strikeouts, and was outstanding at the plate - 3-for-4 with a triple and six runs driven in. Montana Bolinger was 3-for-3 and had two RBIs for Forbes Road.
Peddie 11-12, Mercersburg 1-1: Mercersburg fell in an IPSL doubleheader to Peddie. Mercersburg committed six errors in Game 1 to allow Peddie to score 11 runs off nine hits. In Game 2, Mercersburg (3-9, 2-3 IPSL) could not get the bats rolling, with seven hits in the nightcap, all singles.
Boys Track & Field
Southern Fulton, Fannett-Metal in NBC Invite: Tim Wright was the only area winner at the Northern Bedford Invitational on Friday. SF’s Wright won the javelin with a toss of 160-01. Also for the Indians, Chase Varner was second in the 800 (2:04.54), the 4x800 team of Jonah Golden, Nate Voight, Benji Voight and Varner was second, and the 4x400 team of Jacob Murray, Benji Voight, Jeremiah Ashkettle and Varner placed third.
For Fannett-Metal, Hunter Angle was third in the 400 (53.94) and Layton Hoffmann was third in the 800 (2:10.54).
Girls Track & Field
Southern Fulton, Fannett-Metal in NBC Invite: Southern Fulton set two records despite not winning any events at the Northern Bedford Invitational. Sarah Wright was second in the javelin, but her throw of 108-00 is a school record, and Celina Merchant broke her own school record in the 300 hurdles (49.73) while finishing fourth. Merchant was also fourth in the 100 hurdles (17.41) and long jump (15-8).
For the Tigers, Lizzie Peppernick took third in the discus (100-0.5) and sixth in the shot put (30-4.5).
Boys Lacrosse
Mercersburg Academy 12, Peddie 7: The Blue Storm earned a rare win over Peddie to raise their record to 9-4 (2-1 MAPL).
Girls Lacrosse
Peddie 15, Mercersburg Academy 5: With the defeat, the Blue Storm is now 1-9 (0-4 MAPL).
