F-F H.S. Highlights, April 23
Chambersburg’s boys volleyball hit the road Saturday to play in the State College Tournament and the Trojans found the going pretty tough with a depleted roster.
The team compiled a 5-7 record in pool play and did not reach the playoffs.
Trojan coach Marta Cummings said, "We had one player out sick and two others had to sit most of the day, so we were spread thin. We did not have a good day."
Chambersburg opened against two of the top teams in District 3 and lost to York Suburban (25-17, 25-20) and Hempfield (25-14, 25-20), then dropped two games to Latrobe (25-19, 25-19).
The Trojans met the host Little Lions and picked up a pair of victories, 25-15 and 25-21. Then came a split against Whitehall (17-25, 25-21) before they finished with a sweep over Exeter Township, 25-13 and 25-18.
The top players for Chambersburg included Evan Misal (17 kills, 12 block kills, 13 digs), Landon Miller (19 kills, 6 blocks), Will Gerhart (44 digs, 4 aces), Ian Patterson (11 kills, 71 assists, 13 digs), Dalton Strite (16 kills, 18 digs, 3 aces), Aaron Myers (13 kills), Nate Walker (12 kills) and Dylan Culler (4 aces).

Baseball
James Buchanan 6, McConnellsburg 3: The Rockets (4-5) snapped a five-game slide by beating McConnellsburg. A three-run fourth inning, capped by a Hunter Spoonhour’s two-run double, was the big inning for JB, which got a 2-for-3 effort from Jared Pine.
For the Spartans (2-9), Quintin Miller was 2-for-3 and knocked in a pair of runs, and Justin Welsh was 2-for-3.
Waynesboro 2, Ephrata 1: The Mountaineers tied the game 1-1 in the bottom of the seventh on a home run by Nate Fassnacht, but the Indians (8-2) tallied a run in the top of the eighth and Kyle Hoffman made it stand up. Hoffman raised his record to 5-1, allowing five hits and no walks in his eight-inning performance.
Mercersburg Academy 4-2, Hun 1-6: The Blue Storm (12-4, 5-1 MAPL) won the opener behind Jake Rist, who struck out 10 in his six innings of work. Brandon Thomas had two hits and two RBIs, and Eli Riley and Will Oakley also had two hits each. In the second game, Hun gave a loss to pitcher Miles Hearon.
Everett 6, McConnellsburg 5 (9): For the second time this season, the Warriors and Spartans played extra innings; on Friday, Everett pulled out the win in the bottom of the ninth. McConnellsburg made six errors.
Softball
Cumberland Valley 5, Waynesboro 4: The Maidens fell behind 3-0 in the first inning, then caught up in the top of the fifth with two runs. But the Eagles got the game-winner in the bottom of the inning. Nicole Kreimer was 2-for-3 for Waynesboro (6-4), while No. 9 hitter Katie Wingert was 3-for-3 with three RBIs for the Eagles.
Hun 12-17, Mercersburg Academy 2-2: The Blue Storm (2-7, 0-6 MAPL) managed a total of 10 hits for the day. Caroline Casparian tripled in the first game and Jenna Richards hit a double in game 2. Sarah Lyman was 2-for-3 in the second game.
Mercersburg Academy 7, Hun 0: The Blue Storm got wins in singles and doubles from Elliot Hicks, Saaman Ghodsi, Shayan Ghodsi and Aaron Zheng to raise their record to 3-3 (2-2 MAPL). Anton Nogin and Merle Thorpe also won in singles.

Hun 16, Mercersburg Academy 5: Amanda Broyles and Ryan Geitner each scored two goals and Maddi Johnson had one for the Blue Storm (1-7, 0-3 MAPL).
