H.S. Highlights: F-M softball falls in 8 innings

GAME OF THE DAY

Fannett-Metal pitcher Brooke Harris had an excellent outing as the Tigers opened their season against Northern Bedford on Thursday. Unfortunately, the Panthers spoiled the ending by scoring two unearned runs in the top if the eighth inning to come away with a 4-2 Sideling Hill/Inter-County Conference victory.

Harris pitched all eight innings, allowing seven hits and no earned runs. She also notched F-M's only hit of the game, an RBI single in the first inning to give her team the lead.

Fannett-Metal coach Michael DeAngelo said, "It was close the whole way and there was great intensity, especially for an opener. We need to remain positive and keep working hard and the wins will come."

RIDER STRONG

Southern Fulton's Trent Rider opened his senior baseball season with a bang in the Indians' 5-1 win over Forbes Road in a Sideling Hill League/ Inter-County Conference clash. Rider threw a no-hitter through five innings before his pitch count (50) forced him to retire. He struck out eight batters and faced the minimum 15 batters.

"Trent had a great opening day on the mound," Southern Fulton coach Dustin Fischer said.

The Indians scored five runs, but had just two hits, both off the bat of Mitch Potter. Forbes Road walked six SF batters and hit two batters on top of five errors.

The Cardinals loaded the bases in the seventh, with an RBI single by Aaron Schepis scoring for Forbes Road's only run.

"I thought we played a good game just with a couple errors and miscues," Forbes Road coach Randy Gelvin said. "We had two hits, they had two hits. It could have easily been 1-1 and we would still be playing."
