24 named Mid Penn football all-stars
Forrest Rhyne named Colonial Division Defensive MVP
Franklin County's football season officially came to a close on Friday when Shippensburg lost in the first round of the playoffs.
But more than 20 local football players were honored on Tuesday when the Mid Penn Conference All-Stars were released.
The highlight for the area was Waynesboro's Forrest Rhyne, who was named the Colonial Division Defensive MVP as the area's top linebacker.
Greencastle-Antrim racked up the accolades with nine combined players on first and second team. Defensively, Jeremy Anderson earned a spot on the Colonial Division First Team as a lineman, and Tyler Jeffreys and Sam Sprague were honored as a linebacker and defensive back, respectively. On the offensive side, Sean Walck (lineman) and Spencer Meyers (quarterback) were both named to the first team.
Brae Peck got a pair of spots on the second team as a lineman and a tight end. Kyrin Zimmerman was a second-team return specialist, Randy Harne earned a nod as the center, and Demetrius Burton was named a second-team running back.
Shippensburg earned a combined eight awards, while six Waynesboro players were honored.
For the Greyhounds, Wade Mills got the most recognition, earning a spot on first team as a receiver and on second team as a defensive end. Ship swept the first-team receiver spots as Cody Gustafson was also honored. On the defensive side, Dylan Rotz (defensive end) and Cameron Tinner (linebacker) both earned spots on the first-team.
Tyler Gustafson (quarterback), Cole Friese (defensive back), Adam Houser (return specialist) and Ethan Davidson (lineman) were second-teamers from Ship. Houser was the only freshman named to either team in any division.
Waynesboro racked up the first-team accolades. In addition to Rhyne, other Indians earning first-team spots on the defensive side were Trevor Biller (lineman) and Brandon Baer (defensive back, return specialist). Offensively, Anthony Garland was named a first-team offensive lineman, and Jake Wertz got the nod as a top running back.
On the second team was Matt Peck as a receiver and an athlete.
Chambersburg and James Buchanan each had one representative on the All-Star teams. For the Trojans, Kelton Chastulik was named a second-team offensive and defensive lineman in the Commonwealth Division, while Seth Carbaugh got a spot on the Colonial Division Second Team as a linebacker.
