The Chambersburg Lady Trojans softball team entered Thursday’s District 3 Class 6A title game with one thing in mind.

Leave no doubt.

Last year, Chambersburg met Penn Manor and claimed a narrow victory over the Comets for the team’s first district title in 12 years – but since, opponents have called the 2016 title a fluke.

So when Chambersburg was set to meet Penn Manor again in the final – the team wanted to leave nothing to question.

The Trojans locked in its second straight District 3 title with a 13-2 victory over the Comets, racking up 18 hits against one of District 3's top pitchers in Brittany Hook.

Chambersburg moves on to the PIAA tournament next week and will meet District 7 runner-up Latrobe in Monday's first round.

“We just had something to prove today,” Chambersburg’s Dori Loukopoulos said. “They thought they were going to walk in and get a district championship, but we made it hard. I don’t think anyone expected us to beat them by this much.”

“The revenge factor took over a little bit,” Chambersburg coach Chris Skultety said, “not that we lost to them, but they had been talking all year and it’s just sweeter that there was no doubt who the better team was today.”

Chambersburg fell in a two-run hole in the first inning, but stormed back as the bats came alive thanks to a three-run double by Loukopoulos in the top of the sixth inning to give the Trojans a five-run lead.

That margin held until the floodgates opened in the top of the seventh.

“This is the most contagious team I’ve ever been around,” Skultety said. “When one hits they all hit. They feed off each other and they pick each other up, and it’s unbelievable how they feed off one another.”

Chambersburg brought six runs across, including a two-run home run by Loukopoulos, and RBIs by Alexis Estep and Taylor Myers.

“It was great to see everyone hit,” Loukopoulos said. “It was definitely a team effort and everything was clicking today.”

Taylor Myers had a stellar day at the plate, hitting 4-for-4 with an RBI.

“When you hit the ball like that good things are going to happen,” Penn Manor coach Dave Stokes said. “We played solid like we always play, but that had no impact on all the run scoring they had at the end of the game.”

After allowing just four hits, Laken Myers helped herself in the circle with two RBIs, while Maggie Myers had two hits, an RBI and a double steal.

“The first (district championship) is always exciting,” Skultety said, “but I’ll take this every year if I can get it.”
