10 area softball players named to All-State team
Chambersburg. Greencastle-Antrim. Shippensburg. The three softball teams to make the most headlines this season in Franklin County did it again as the Pennsylvania High School Softball Coaches Association released its All-State team Tuesday, littered with area talent from the three top softball teams in Franklin County.
Chambersburg, which made it all the way to the PIAA semifinals, earned four nods on the Class AAAA team. P.O. Softball Player of the Year Leah Hunt was named to the first team as a designated hitter, while Dori Loukopoulus was named to the second team as a utility player. Laken Myers was a pitching honorable mention, and Lexi Leedy was named an outfield honorable mention.
Hunt, who emerged as a powerhouse in every position she played on the field, had a clear advantage at the plate, boasting a .540 average, including eight home runs and 17 extra base hits. She also led the team with 45 RBIs. She also boasted a 0.97 ERA and a 7-1 record from the circle.
Also in Class AAAA, Shippensburg had three players named to the All-State team, led by Courtney Coy, who earned a second team nod as a second baseman. Morgan Fetter was named an honorable mention as a catcher, and Amber Orndorff was a utility player honorable mention.
In Class AAA, Greencastle earned three nominations in the outfield category, while Ally Brown earned spots in two different positions. Brown was a first-team honoree in the outfield, and also earned an honorable mention for pitching. Jess Root was named to the second team for her work in the outfield, while Morgan Wagaman was an honorable mention.
Brown, who was a top contender for P.O. Softball Player of the Year and was the Mid Penn Colonial Division Player of the Year, led the team at the plate, batting .505 and driving in 45 RBIs, and had a 2.88 ERA from the circle with 57 strikeouts.
