A-C softball is co-champion of L-L Section Four

Annville-Cleona and Pequea Valley were set to continue their softball rivalry Friday in a game to decide the Lancaster-Lebanon Section Four championship.

However, once the teams got to the field, a brief but strong storm dumped enough rain on the Warwick field that the game had to be canceled.

Warwick athletic director Ryan Landis said in a press release, "I thought we could get the section tie-breaker in today, and for awhile it looked like we were going to pull it off until a 10-minute downpour did us in. With one of the schools having a school function, we didn’t have the option to delay the start or move to another venue."

That left the Little Dutchmen (14-5, 11-4 L-L) and Braves (13-4, 11-4 L-L) knotted in first place.

Landis said, "Therefore, Annville-Cleona and Pequea Valley have been named co-champions of Section Four. Congrats to both teams – their seasons were very similar and they represented their schools and the league in a manner in which they are both worthy champions."

As for the L-L playoffs, which begin Saturday, the Braves earned the top seed for the section because of a higher District 3 power ranking. Pequea Valley will face Elizabethtown at 9 a.m.  and A-C will follow at 11:15 a.m.  against Solanco. All L-L playoff quarterfinals Saturday are at Garrett Field in WIllow Street.

The rest of the schedule includes Lampeter-Strasburg vs. Hempfield lat 1:30 p.m. and Penn Manor vs. Donegal at 3:45.
