P.O. Female Athlete of the Week: Ally Brown

When the game on the line, there is nowhere else Greencastle-Antrim's Ally Brown would rather be than at the plate with a bat in her hand.

And there is nowhere the team would rather her be, either.

Brown cultivated a reputation on the team as a clutch hitter last year, according to Blue Devil coach Mark DeCarli, but this season she is taking it to a whole new level, already with three game-winning hits in her pocket-- two last week alone to give her team a narrow edge in the race for the Mid Penn Colonial Division crown.

Brown is the P.O. Female Athlete of the Week.

"Ally is bringing the team some confidence at bat in clutch situations," DeCarli said. "When she is up there she is going to get the job done for us."

Tuesday, Brown hit the eventual game-winning RBI in an eight inning battle with James Buchanan, and then hit a walkoff double to bring in the winning runs in the bottom of the seventh in a come-from-behind victory against Shippensburg.

"That was another situation where I thought I was going to be up, and prepared myself for what I was going to do," Brown said. "I knew I wasn't going to hit a home run. I was looking to make hard, solid contact, and even if I scored one run, I just wanted to put fire in (my team's) eyes, and I made that solid contact that I needed."

Brown is also one of the Blue Devils' top pitchers, throwing six wins this season.

"I want to be the girl in that situation every time, not just for me but for my team," Brown said. "I want to be the girl who was able to do something that picks my team up."

And with her in those situations, Greencastle has put itself in the race for the division crown.

Brown said, "I'm really excited to see how the division plays out; hopefully in our favor. The entire season has been head to head to head - everyone is going for the division title. If we can come out with this win Tuesday I think we have a good shot. From the beginning we had something to prove."
