Chambersburg hits lights out vs. State College

When Chambersburg's softball team unloaded from the bus on Tuesday afternoon, it was clear the Trojans were ready to play.

It was a long, two-hour-plus road trip to State College, but it was well worth it for Chambersburg, which secured a 9-2 victory over the Little Lions in Mid Penn Commonwealth Division action.

The Trojans scored all nine of their runs in the opening three innings.

"We came out and just smashed the ball," Chambersburg skipper Chris Skultety said. "It was a long bus ride, and we got there a little late so we were rushing through infield warmups and all that. I don't know if we were just in the zone or what, but we had great at-bats for the first three innings."

Chambersburg (14-1, 9-1 MPC) finished with two doubles and two home runs - all of which came in those first three innings. Lexy Leedy's first home run of the season put the Lions (7-5, 7-4 MPC) in a 9-1 hole after three innings. Katie Overcash also had a home run and three RBIs. Caeley Etter went 2-for-4, as did Leedy, and Tara Harmon also drove in two runs.

"We put our hitting shoes on and put that chip on our shoulder that we've been talking about," Skultety said. "We had the big girl bats out tonight."

The Trojan offense was backed up the strong work of Laken Myers, who tossed a three-hitter that featured three strikeouts and two walks.

"She had a lot of top on her ball tonight," Skultety said. "She was hitting her spots, and probably should've had more strikeouts. The strike zone was real tight, but she threw a nice game."
