Hot hitters boost Chambersburg over 'Boro
WAYNESBORO - When the Chambersburg softball team worked its way through the first half of its order in the first inning against Waynesboro, the bats were ice cold.
But when Dori Loukopoulos led off the second frame with a double lasered to left field, and the next two batters reached base due to walks, Leah Hunt stepped up to the plate with her game face on.

Hunt crushed a perfect pitch to left field, to clear the bases for a grand slam, and ultimately propelled the Lady Trojans to a 14-8 non-league game against Waynesboro.
But the Trojans (3-0) weren't done there. After Hunt finished rounding the bases, Sammie Bender stepped up to the plate and cleared the fence in center field and added another run to Chambersburg's lead.
"We came in a little flat, a little unfocused, but that grand slam was huge - it gave us a big lift and it calmed us down a little bit," Chambersburg coach Chris Skultety said. "The bats came through when they needed to."
"It's not the first time Sam and I have gone back-to-back grand slam, home run, but I'd say it was great for momentum," said Hunt, who also hit a grand slam, followed by a home run by Bender last year against Central Dauphin. "Everyone was hitting around us and taking advantage of being on the bases. I think we worked really well together on the bats."
Chambersburg's six-run second inning didn't mean the end for the Maidens (1-2), though, who had an answer every inning - but not enough to overcome the deficit. The third inning was the only frame that Chambersburg shut out Waynesboro, and with some pitching struggles in the final frame, the Maidens made a push for a rally in the seventh, scoring three runs.
"We responded to every play they made in some way," Waynesboro coach Aaron Burke said. "But you have to give credit to Chambersburg, because every time we answered they answered right back."
Hunt hit another solo shot in the sixth inning, and pinch hitter Katie Overcash sailed a two-run homer to center in the final frame.
Waynesboro's MacKenzie Miller also hit a home run sending one over the fence on a full count in the fourth inning.
