SOFTBALL: Wednesday's roundup, Forbes Road edges Southern Fulton in 8 innings

HUSTONTOWN >> Forbes Road scored a run on an error in the bottom of the eighth inning Wednesday and pulled out a 2-1 Sideling Hill/Inter-County Conference softball victory over Southern Fulton.

Olivia Hall led off the eighth in a hit, but SF pitcher Olivia Mottern got two outs. Then Braylin Hohman singled and when the ball skipped past an Indian outfielder, Hall came around to score the winning run.

"The girls played really well today and never gave up. It was a good win," Cardinal coach Beth Bryant said.

Maiah Mellott drove in the other run for Forbes Road (9-8, 8-7 SHL, 8-5 ICC), and Courtney Schoen, the winning pitcher, also banged a triple.

For Southern Fulton (7-11, 5-10 SHL, 5-8 ICC), Erica Hoffman singled three times, and Allison Spade and Abbey Peck each had two hits. Mottern struck out seven batters and walked three.

"We hit the ball pretty well (10 hits), but we left a lot of runners in scoring position," Indian coach Stacy Smith said.
