SOFTBALL: Friday's roundup


SOUTHERN FULTON 5, FANNETT-METAL 2 >> Five different players had one hit each for Southern Fulton in a Sideling Hill League/Inter-County Conference win.

The Indians (7-10, 5-9 SHL, 5-7 ICC) got a triple from Hope Swope, and Erica Hoffman, Lakyn Morton, Olivia Mottern and Kyle Covalt all had singles. Mottern also drove in two runs and gave up just two runs on four hits to get the win.

"We had a couple of mistakes early that cost us a run, but we played well otherwise," Southern Fulton coach Stacy Smith said. "We've really started hitting up and down the lineup."

For the Tigers, who end their season with a 3-17 (2-14 SHL, 2-12 ICC) record, Emily Metcalfe had a triple.

EVERETT 14, MCCONNELLSBURG 1 >> McConnellsburg managed just four hits and committed five errors in a Sideling Hill League/Inter-County Conference loss to Everett.

Everett jumped ahead with a run in the first inning and grabbed a big cushion with a nine-run third. Caitlyn Lynch led the Spartans (1-15, 1-13 SHL, 1-12 ICC) with two hits.

"We're still struggling, and we're going to have to battle and limit the mistakes if we're going to get out of this," McConnellsburg coach Junior Swope said.

Jasmine Leisure and Justice Seville also singled for McConnellsburg.

CHESTNUT RIDGE 13, FORBES ROAD 3 >> Forbes Road scored three runs in the first inning but its bats went stagnant in a Sideling Hill League loss to Chestnut Ridge on Thursday.

The Cardinals (8-7, 7-7 SHL) took a 3-2 after the first inning, but Ridge tied in the second and scored nine runs in the third to take a commanding lead.

Forbes Road coach Beth Bryant said, "We hit well in the first inning, but we really never got anything going after that."

Seven different players had hits for the Cardinals. Hannah Purnell finished with two RBIs, and Braylin Hohman had a double and an RBI. Olivia Hall also had a double.
